Drain pump

Usually DIY

DIY. Escalate only if the pump is fine and the drain error persists, which points at the control board or wiring.

Try this first — it costs nothing. Clean the drain filter - manual: MAINTENANCE.

Check, in this order

  1. Clean the drain filter behind the lower access panel FIRST - a coin or lint clog mimics a dead pump exactly and costs nothing.
  2. Confirm the drain hose is not kinked and its end is below 96 in (2.4 m) - the manual lists both as the drain error causes.
  3. With power off, spin the pump impeller by hand; if it is seized or noisy, replace the pump.

Before you open anything

Tools

The repair, in order

  1. Open the lower access panel and drain through the filter hose into a shallow pan.
  2. Remove and inspect the pump filter — coins, hair clips and lint clog it and mimic a dead pump exactly.
  3. If the filter was clean, photograph the pump's wiring connectors, then unplug them.
  4. Release the hose clamps to the sump and the drain hose; expect more water.
  5. Unscrew the pump from its mount, fit the replacement, and reconnect clamps and connectors in the photographed order.
  6. Run a Rinse+Spin with the panel still off and watch for leaks before closing up.

How you know it worked. Run Rinse+Spin. A good repair drains fully within the drain step with no drain error and no drip at either clamp.

In your manual: Residue left in drum — page 48

Door lock

Usually DIY

Mechanical latch replacement is DIY. A door error that repeats after the door is properly closed points past the latch and should go to service.

Try this first — it costs nothing. No no-part fix for this one - go straight to the checks.

Check, in this order

  1. Make sure nothing (a garment corner) is trapped in the door and it latches fully home.
  2. The manual's escalation: if the message keeps appearing, unplug the power cord and call for service.

Before you open anything

Tools

The repair, in order

  1. Confirm nothing is trapped in the door and it latches fully home.
  2. Peel back the boot's outer clamp to expose the lock's screws.
  3. Photograph the connector, then release it.
  4. Fit the new lock, reseat the boot clamp fully, and reconnect.

How you know it worked. The door locks at cycle start and releases at the end with no door error.

Pressure switch

Usually DIY

TECHNICIAN. On a water-level fault, close the faucets, unplug the machine and call for service.

Try this first — it costs nothing. No no-part fix for this one - go straight to the checks.

Check, in this order

  1. Check the clear pressure hose from the tub to the switch for kinks, water or debris - a blocked hose mimics a dead switch.
  2. Look for detergent sludge in the hose port.

Before you open anything

Tools

The repair, in order

  1. Trace the clear pressure hose from the tub to the switch.
  2. Check it for kinks, trapped water and detergent sludge — a blocked hose mimics a dead switch.
  3. Blow the hose clear and refit before condemning the switch.

How you know it worked. Correct fill level on a normal cycle and no water-level error.

Shock absorber

Usually DIY

DIY but replace in pairs/sets. If the drum has dropped or the spider arm is cracked, that is a technician (or replace) job.

Try this first — it costs nothing. Redistribute the load and re-level the machine - manual: the unbalance error causes.

Check, in this order

  1. Rule out the load first - the manual lists small loads, mixed weights and tangling as the unbalance error causes before any part is at fault.
  2. Check the machine is level and the leveling legs are locked.
  3. Push the drum down by hand; a good absorber resists and returns slowly, a dead one drops freely.

Before you open anything

Tools

The repair, in order

  1. Rule out the load and the levelling first (manual: Leveling the Washer) — both cause the unbalance error with no fault.
  2. Remove the front or rear panel to reach the dampers.
  3. Push the drum down by hand; a live damper resists and returns slowly, a dead one drops free.
  4. Replace dampers as a SET, not singly — one new damper against three worn ones re-creates the imbalance.
  5. Re-level the machine and lock the leg nuts.

How you know it worked. A full spin with a normal load, no cabinet contact and no unbalance error.

In your manual: the manual — checked; its troubleshooting section does not cover this part.

Door boot seal

Technician only
Stop. DIY-able but fiddly - the outer ring must seat perfectly or it will leak again. If the tub itself is cracked or the leak is from behind the drum, stop and call a technician.
Try this first — it costs nothing. No no-part fix for this one - go straight to the checks.

Check, in this order

  1. Pull the boot open all the way round and look for splits, especially at the bottom (6 o'clock) where water sits.
  2. Run a Rinse+Spin and watch the door seal - a boot leak usually shows only when the drum is turning.
  3. Check the retaining ring (ACA56078801) is seated; a popped ring leaks without the boot being torn.

Water inlet valve

Usually DIY

Replacing the valve is DIY. BUT if the machine keeps filling when it should not, close the faucets, unplug it and call for service - do not attempt that one.

Try this first — it costs nothing. Clean the inlet filter screens - manual: Cleaning the Water Inlet Filters.

Check, in this order

  1. Check both faucets are fully open and the hoses are not kinked - the manual's first two the fill error causes.
  2. Clean the inlet filter screens (manual: MAINTENANCE > Cleaning the Water Inlet Filters); hard-water scale is a common cause and needs no parts.
  3. If the machine fills with the power off, the valve is stuck open and must be replaced.

Before you open anything

Tools

The repair, in order

  1. Close both faucets and unscrew the inlet hoses from the back of the machine.
  2. Pull the filter screens out with pliers and soak them in white vinegar (manual: Cleaning the Water Inlet Filters) — scale here causes the fill error with no part needed.
  3. If the screens were clean, remove the top panel to reach the valve body.
  4. Photograph the wiring and hose positions — hot and cold are not interchangeable.
  5. Swap the valve, reconnect in the photographed order, and reattach the hoses.
  6. Open the faucets and check for weeping at both couplings before running a cycle.

How you know it worked. Machine fills at a normal rate on a cold and a warm cycle, and does NOT fill when powered off.

In your manual: Water is enter ing washer but tub does not fill — page 50

Drain hose

Usually DIY

DIY.

Try this first — it costs nothing. No no-part fix for this one - go straight to the checks.

Check, in this order

  1. Inspect the full run of hose for kinks, crushing behind the machine, and splits at both clamps.
  2. Verify the standpipe height against the manual's 24-96 in (61-244 cm) window; too high causes the drain error, too low siphons.
  3. Confirm there is no airtight seal at the standpipe - the manual warns this siphons water out of the drum.

Before you open anything

Tools

The repair, in order

  1. Pull the machine out far enough to see the whole hose run.
  2. Check for kinks, crushing behind the cabinet and splits at both clamps.
  3. Confirm the standpipe height sits inside the manual's 24–96 in (61–244 cm) window.
  4. Make sure the connection is NOT airtight — the manual warns a sealed joint siphons the drum.
  5. Replace the hose if split, reseating both clamps.

How you know it worked. A full drain step with no pooling behind the machine and no drain error.

In your manual: Residue left in drum — page 48

Control board

Usually DIY

Borderline. The board is the most expensive part on this machine and is commonly misdiagnosed - get a technician to confirm before buying one.

Try this first — it costs nothing. No no-part fix for this one - go straight to the checks.

Check, in this order

  1. Confirm power at the outlet and that PF (power failure) is not simply latched - press Start/Pause first.
  2. Rule out the cheaper failures the board gets blamed for (pump, valve, door lock) before buying a board.
  3. Look for visible scorching or swollen capacitors on the board.

Drive belt

Usually DIY

DIY on a top-load belt-drive washer. If a pulley is seized or the belt keeps coming off after a correct fit, the transmission or motor mount is the underlying fault, not the belt.

Try this first — it costs nothing. Rule out an overloaded or badly unbalanced load first — repeated imbalance shutdowns can throw a belt off its pulleys with nothing actually broken; rebalance the load and retry before ordering a part.

Check, in this order

  1. First confirm which half: if this is the DRYER side of a stacked laundry center or washer/dryer combo — drum won't turn, motor hums, no water involved — that's the dryer's own belt and pulleys, a separate part from the washer belt covered here.
  2. On the washer side, spin the drum by hand with power off — a belt-drive top-load washer's drum should turn with resistance from the motor; spinning completely free means the belt is off or broken.
  3. Listen during a spin attempt: the motor running while the drum stays still points at the belt, not the motor.
  4. Look under the cabinet for a belt that's visibly frayed, glazed, or off its pulleys.

Before you open anything

Tools

The repair, in order

  1. Unplug the washer and reach the underside pulleys per the model's service position — top-load belt-drive washers route the belt between the motor and the transmission pulley.
  2. Photograph the belt's routing around both pulleys before removing anything; a belt fitted the wrong way round chews itself up again.
  3. Remove the old belt and check both pulleys spin freely by hand — a seized pulley is why the belt failed and will strip the new one too.
  4. Fit the new belt around the motor pulley first, then work it onto the transmission pulley by hand, keeping it centered and untwisted.
  5. Spin the pulleys by hand to seat the belt fully in both grooves before restoring power.

How you know it worked. The drum turns immediately with the motor on a Spin cycle, with no slipping sound and no drum lag.

In your manual: the manual — checked; its troubleshooting section does not cover this part.
