Fuse

Technician only Vendor replaces this part if the microwave will not work at all
Stop. STOP. Licensed technician only.
Try this first — it costs nothing. Test the outlet and breaker before assuming the fuse itself is blown.

Check, in this order

  1. Test the outlet with another appliance first — a dead outlet or tripped breaker looks identical to a blown fuse.
  2. Note whether the failure followed a pop or smell, which points at a diode or short rather than a simple overload.

Door latch

Usually DIY Vendor replaces this part if the door will not stay closed

DIY. This is mechanical and lives in the door, not the high-voltage compartment.

Try this first — it costs nothing. Clean around the button and lever pivot — grease buildup is the most common cause of a sticky latch.

Check, in this order

  1. Press the release button by hand and watch whether the lever and hooks move freely — a stuck lever often just needs cleaning, not replacing.
  2. Check the spring hasn't popped off its post.
  3. Compare travel and feel against a working microwave if you have one.

Tools

The repair, in order

  1. Unplug the unit and open the door trim to reach the latch mechanism (accessed from the door itself on most models, not the cabinet).
  2. Photograph the lever, spring, and button positions before removing anything.
  3. Swap the worn part — button, spring, or lever — matching orientation exactly.
  4. Reassemble the door trim and test the release action by hand before plugging back in.

How you know it worked. The button releases the door smoothly every time and the door latches shut with a firm, even click.

Repair or replace? Repair first once the listed checks confirm this component. It is usually a contained repair; reconsider replacement only if multiple major faults or a disproportionate technician quote are present.General guidance for this component — no model-specific price maths behind it.

Door switch

Technician only Vendor replaces this part if it is damaged or missing
Stop. DIY once unplugged and once a multimeter confirms which switch failed. If reaching the switch bank means opening the inner cabinet shell rather than a simple access panel, stop and call a technician instead.
Try this first — it costs nothing. Wipe down the latch hooks and strike plate — food residue there stops the door seating fully and mimics a bad switch.

Check, in this order

  1. Confirm the door closes firmly and the latch hooks aren't bent before blaming a switch.
  2. Test each switch for continuity in and out of the door-closed position — most microwaves have two or three separate door switches and only one may have failed.
  3. Listen for a click as the door closes; a switch that doesn't click is the one to replace first.

Led light

Technician only Vendor replaces this part if the lights are not working
Stop. DIY on models with an external or cavity-accessible light housing. If the LED module is only reachable by removing the outer cabinet, stop and call a technician instead.
Try this first — it costs nothing. Nothing free here — a dead LED module needs replacing.

Check, in this order

  1. Confirm it's the LED module and not just a loose connector by checking whether the cavity stays dark during a cook cycle too, not only with the door open.

Thermostat

Technician only Vendor replaces this part if it is damaged or missing
Stop. STOP. Licensed technician only.

Check, in this order

  1. Note whether it cuts out mid-cook or refuses to reach temperature at all — both point here but mean different things to a technician.

Magnetron

Technician only Vendor replaces this part if the microwave is not working at all
Stop. STOP. Licensed technician only.
No free first check for this one. There is no safe free check that gets closer to a magnetron diagnosis than the water-cup test above.

Check, in this order

  1. Confirm the turntable, light, and fan all still run normally — everything running but nothing getting hot is the classic magnetron/HV-circuit signature.
  2. Run a full water-load cup once: it should get hot within 60-90 seconds on high.

Turntable coupler

Usually DIY Vendor replaces this part it is damaged or missing

DIY. The turntable motor is a low-voltage accessory circuit, separate from the magnetron side.

Try this first — it costs nothing. Make sure the tray and roller ring are seated correctly and nothing is wedged underneath — a jammed tray gets mistaken for a dead motor constantly.

Check, in this order

  1. Spin the coupler by hand with the unit unplugged and empty — stiff or grinding points at the motor rather than the coupler.
  2. Confirm the glass tray isn't overloaded or catching on the cavity wall.

Before you open anything

Tools

The repair, in order

  1. Unplug the microwave or shut off power before removing the bottom panel.
  2. Disconnect the LED-light and turntable-motor connectors, then remove the motor to access the coupler.
  3. Lift out the turntable, transfer the washers to the new coupler, reinstall the motor and bottom panel.

How you know it worked. The turntable rotates smoothly through a short microwave cycle.
