Two checks that cost nothing
- Confirm the water line is turned on Check the shutoff valve behind or under the fridge and make sure it's fully open. If the fridge was recently moved, installed, or the valve was closed off for other work, this alone is the fix, and it costs nothing to check first.
- Check the line for a kink or freeze Pull the fridge out and look at the supply line running to the back for a sharp kink. Also check whether the section running through the freezer wall has frozen solid — a freezer running colder than it should can freeze the water line inside it.
- Check the water filter Look at the date printed on the filter housing against its replacement interval. An old, clogged filter restricts flow enough to turn a normal fill into a slow trickle or nothing at all, and it's a check, not a purchase, until you confirm it's overdue.

How to check. Check the paddle or lever mechanism for a full range of motion, and listen for a solenoid click when you press it — that's a separate small valve just for the dispenser opening to release water.

How to check. Test continuity across the valve's coil terminals, and check the screen inside the inlet for mineral buildup blocking flow.
