Two checks that cost nothing
- Write down the exact code first Power-cycling the range can clear the code before you get to read it twice. Note exactly what's on the display — every letter, number, and dash — before you do anything else. Small differences between similar-looking codes point at different faults, so getting it exactly right matters.
- Power-cycle the range Turn the range off at the breaker, or unplug it, for a minute or two, then restore power. A real share of codes are one-time glitches that clear on reset. If the same code comes right back once the range is running again, the fault is real.
- Look up the code against your model's tech sheet Find the model number, usually on a sticker on the door frame or inside a drawer, and search for that exact code on that exact model's documentation. The same letters mean different things across brands and even across one brand's model years, so a generic code list will point you the wrong way.

How to check. Open and close the door and watch whether the latch hook physically catches and holds, separate from whether the electric lock engages.

How to check. Check whether the lock motor or solenoid engages when you run a self-clean cycle or any cycle that calls for the door to lock.
If it doesn't engage, or engages but the control never sees the door as locked, many ranges will refuse to start the cycle at all.
