Two checks that cost nothing
- Check the breaker before anything else A range runs on a double-pole breaker, and one half can trip while the other still works — which is exactly why the cooktop can keep heating when the oven has gone dead. Switch the breaker fully off and back on. Costs nothing and rules out the whole machine.
- Try the oven and the cooktop separately The oven elements and the surface elements run on different parts. If one heats and the other doesn't, everything on the working side is ruled out — and you have halved what you need to check.
- Rule out a lockout or a delay setting Look at the display for a lock icon, or a delay-start or timer still set. A locked panel and a delayed start both look exactly like a dead oven. Clear it, reset the controls and try again.

No continuity = open. The oven can still bake with a dead broil element and still broil with a dead bake element, since the two run on separate circuits.

No continuity = blown. It's a one-time safety device, so if it's blown once, ask why before replacing it — a stuck vent or a fan fault can blow the next one too.

How to check. Test resistance and compare against the value in the machine's tech sheet, or just watch the display for an oven temperature reading that never moves as the oven heats.
Out of range, or a reading that's stuck, means the control is running the oven off a false number.

How to check. Check it last, only after the elements or igniter, the fuses, and the sensors all test good.
Boards are the most expensive part on the range and the least likely cause — most symptoms that look like a bad board turn out to be a failed sensor or switch instead.
