- Look up what the code means Check the manual, the sticker often found inside the door or lid, or the manufacturer's support site for that model number. Codes are brand-specific and the same letters can mean different things on different machines, so this tells you whether you're chasing a door/lock fault, a fill fault, or a drain fault before you open anything.
- Power-cycle the machine Unplug it for a full minute, or switch off the breaker, then restart the cycle from the beginning. This clears a control-board glitch, which is a real and common cause of a stray code. If the same code comes back at the same point in the cycle, the fault is real and the check above tells you where to look next.
- Confirm the door or lid is latched Many codes are the control board reporting it can't confirm the door is locked, even when it looks closed. Open it and firmly reclose it, listening for the lock to engage, then start the cycle again. If the code clears, the latch mechanism is the next thing to check, not whatever the code display literally named.
