Samsung Washer Not Draining: 5C and nd Decoded, the Pump Test, and What It Costs

3 Samsung washer repair files · 443 community comments · 74 Samsung washers in our catalogue · Samsung's code pages read and quoted

Read the code, then open the filter, before you buy anything: on a Samsung the drain family is 5C (which the display shows as SC), 5E, SE and nd, and Samsung's own no-drain guide puts the installation first: level the washer, the drain hose 6 to 8 inches into the standpipe and 18 to 96 inches high, then the pump filter on a front-loader (top loaders have none, Samsung says); its code page adds a one-minute unplug as a reset. The filter is behind the panel at the bottom front, with the water still behind it, so drain the small front hose into a bucket first. If the filter is clean and the hose is right, the fault is a part, and on a Samsung front-loader the part every guide and all three of our Samsung files name is the drain pump (under ten numbers on the files; iFixit's test is 10 to 60 Ω and the feel of the impeller), then the pressure sensor and its air tube, then the board. A door code (dS, FL, dE; dC on some models, though on others Samsung says dC is the unbalance code) is the door lock, a separate fault that stops the cycle before it drains. The maker never names a part number; iFixit's teardown does the whole job with a multimeter; the order on this page is Samsung's checks, the filter, the pump on the meter, the sensor, the board.

    Samsung's own no-drain guide

level · hose 6–8 in into the standpipe, 18–96 in high · pump filter (front-load only) · test cycle · HE detergent

Samsung's guide in order: level the washer; the drain hose 6 to 8 inches into the standpipe or sink, secured, not airtight, not kinked, between 18 and 96 inches high, no extension kit, and still screwed to the back of the washer; clean the pump filter on a front-loader (Samsung: top loaders have no removable pump filter); run a cycle. Its code page adds a one-minute unplug as a reset and SUd for too much or non-HE detergent. The filter is behind the panel at the bottom front, which iFixit drains first, bottle by bottle into a bucket from the small front hose, because 911appliance says there can be several gallons behind it.

The pump on all three of our Samsung files. iFixit's test: a good impeller has strong resistance and distinct magnetic snap points as it turns, and a good pump reads 10 to 60 Ω; no voltage at the pump during a drain command is the board's relay, not the pump. applianceanalysts: a hum means it has power and cannot keep up.

    Door lock

    DC34-00024B · DC64-00519B · cover DC63-00960A

Samsung's code page: dS, FL and dE mean the door is not detected as closed or locked, and a front-loader that cannot lock does not run its drain. DC34-00024B is on all three of our Samsung files; applianceanalysts tests the door lock with a multimeter for continuity. Check the strike and the gasket for trapped clothing first.

Seven numbers from the record

Three come from sources we read and link; four are computed from our own files, which are downloadable at the end of the page.

  1. 6–8 in

Samsung's own no-drain guide: "Incorrect drain hose installation is the most common reason for drain issues, and service is rarely required." Its checklist: the hose "not inserted less than 6 inches or more than 8 inches into the standpipe or sink," secured so it cannot slip, no airtight connection, not kinked, "at least 18 inches high (24 inches for wash basins)" and "not higher than 96 inches (35 inches for wash basins)," no extension kit; then the pump filter, "front loaders only," because "top loaders do not have a removable pump filter." iFixit's Samsung guide says no more than 7 inches into the standpipe; Samsung's code page says 6 to 8 in one place and not more than 6 in another. 2

Samsung Support (US), Samsung washing machine will not drain (TSG10007110), the guide its error-code page links from the no-drain codes, read from the page HTML; the code page (TSG01002001) carries the 6-to-8-inch sentence and the one-minute unplug under its fill-error steps and a not-more-than-6-inches sentence in its no-display section. iFixit, How to Troubleshoot Drain Errors in a Samsung Front Load Washing Machine (Ben Schlichter). Yale Appliance's 2022 table put Samsung front-load washers at a 4.9% first-year service rate, second of five (LG 3.3%, GE 8.0%, Whirlpool 9.5%, Maytag 15.0%). Its 2026 washer report no longer ranks the brand: "Samsung washers were reliable, but service was always the sticking point. Before buying, always check how quickly Samsung can be serviced in your area." None of the sixteen repair professionals Prudent Reviews consulted recommends Samsung, and two name it as a brand to avoid. 16

The drain pump is the no-drain candidate on all 3 Samsung washer files in our corpus (WF330ANB, WF330ANW, WF350ANW, all front-loaders), under ten part numbers between them: seven Samsung numbers (DC31-00054A, DC31-00054D, DC31-00187A, DC31-00178D, DC31-00016A, DC96-01700A, DC97-20621A), one more (DC97-16530D) that returned no Amazon listing, and the catalogue numbers 2754406 and 6122849. All three files also carry the pressure switch DC96-01703B and the door lock DC34-00024B. 21

Our repair corpus, three Samsung washer model files built from vendor repair videos and parts catalogues; the drain-pump anchor on all three is a generic RepairClinic video (Washer Not Draining? Drain Pump Replacement #DC31-00054D, 611,876 views), not a model-specific one. Samsung's washer failure profile in our data gives the drain pump 33.5%, the lid lock 17.1% and the water inlet valve 16.7% of repair-video attention, figures identical to the any-brand washer profile, so not Samsung-specific. Attention share, not a failure rate.

  6. 15 min

The drain-code family on a Samsung: Samsung's US page groups nd, 5E, SE, 5C and SC as water not draining from the washer at the correct speed, or at all; its UK list gives 5C and 5E as the drainage code; iFixit adds SC and SUDS and says the codes stop the cycle mid-way; howtofixit's rule is that "The error code is actually 5C, though it appears as SC on the washer's display to many users," and that ND means the washer "has failed to drain water after trying for at least 15 minutes." SUd is over-sudsing, which iFixit says can burn out the pump; dS, FL, dE, dC are the door; UE is an unbalanced load, cleared by Samsung's calibration (hold Temp and Delay End three seconds until CB). 11

Samsung Support (US) TSG01002001 and Samsung Support (UK) error-code list and UE page; iFixit's Samsung drain guide; howtofixit.net, How to Fix Samsung Washer 5C & SC Codes (James) and Samsung Washer SE & 5E Error Code (Eugene Smith). The DC, DE, 3C, TC, UB and UR codes attached to our Samsung files by vendor videos read, on Samsung's UK list, as door (DC/DE), motor (3C) and unbalance (UB/UR) codes, not drain codes.

  7. $20 vs $17

The median Samsung washer in our catalogue costs $19.77 a year to run (front-loaders $18.64, top-loaders $22.60), against $20.71 for all washers; the cheapest-to-run published Samsung, the WF45T60**A* front-loader, costs $16.95. The running-cost gap of $3 a year is not a reason to replace a washer over a pump repair; the age of the machine and the price of service are. 22

annual_cost_usd on 111 Samsung washer records (74 published) at the catalogue's EIA national residential rate ($0.1883/kWh, April 2026); 911appliance's rule: repair if under ten years old and under half the price of a new unit ($500–$1,500).

Left: which parts the 3 Samsung washer repair files in our corpus list as no-drain candidates. Right: what the community's Samsung-washer comments talk about when a washer stops draining. The repair files name one part; the community count spreads across the pump, what was caught in front of it, and the code on the display.

03 / Which cause

The causes, in the order to check them, with the part to check

Free checks first, in Samsung's order (level, hose, filter) with the suds check and the reset from its code page, then the parts in the order iFixit's teardown and the corpus agree on: the door lock only if the code is a door code, the pump, the pressure sensor, then the board. Every part below is matched by part number; where no Samsung number is sourced, the row says so.

CauseWhat you noticeThe checkPart
Installation: hose depth and height, household drain Drains slowly, drains and refills, or 5C on a new or moved washer; the standpipe backs up.Samsung's guide, its first two steps: level the washer, then the hose, 6 to 8 inches into the standpipe or sink, secured, not airtight, not kinked, at least 18 inches high (24 for a wash basin), no higher than 96 (35 for a basin), no extension kit, and still screwed to the back of the washer; iFixit says no more than 7 inches. howtofixit: an air gap, and above 96 inches the pump struggles to push the water that far; a stopped-up household standpipe backs up into the hose. Samsung's code page also says not to use Flood Safe hoses.$0 · Samsung does not list a drain-hose part number on the page; none is on our files
Suds, detergent SUd or 5UD on the display; foam; the cycle pauses to let the suds settle.Samsung: the washer has detected an over-sudsing condition. iFixit: treat SUD as a too-many-suds condition that can burn out the drain pump, and "use less detergent and high-efficiency detergent in the future." applianceanalysts' foam article: a SUDS code "can sometimes be triggered by a draining issue or improper water levels."$0 · HE detergent, measured
Debris filter, coin trap, pump inlet Drains slowly or not at all; 5C, SC, SE or nd; pump hums; something rattled.Samsung's third step (front loaders only; its guide says top loaders have no removable pump filter), the first on howtofixit, applianceanalysts and 911appliance, and the fourth in iFixit's teardown after unplugging, checking the hose and draining the front hose bottle by bottle into a bucket. The filter is behind the access panel at the bottom front (howtofixit; 911appliance says there can be several gallons behind it). applianceanalysts: the coin trap catches what would otherwise reach the pump. howtofixit's interval is every six weeks; 911appliance's every three to six months. Newer EcoBubble machines also have a recirculation pump that clogs (howtofixit).$0
Door lock dS, FL or dE (dC on some models; on others Samsung says dC is the unbalance code); the door will not lock; the cycle never starts, so it never drains.Samsung: dS, FL and dE mean the door is not detected as closed or locked; the UK list reads DC/DE the same way. applianceanalysts tests the door lock motor for continuity with a multimeter; its lid-switch and pump-belt steps are top-load content that does not apply to a Samsung front-loader. Samsung washer will not drain: why the code comes up and the water stays

iFixit's one-line map of a Samsung front-loader is the whole page: the water path is tub, drain pump, drain hose, standpipe. The board runs the pump on the drain command and waits for the pressure sensor to report an empty tub; if that report never comes in time it throws the drain code, 5C on the board and SC on the display, nd after a longer wait. Four things stop the report. The hose defeats the pump, kinked, pulled out of its clip, too high, or so far into the standpipe that it siphons. The pump's inlet is blocked, which is what the debris filter and the coin trap catch, and which is why a blocked pump hums: power, no flow. The pump fails, silent with power or reading outside 10 to 60 Ω, and iFixit says a repeated suds condition is one way to burn it out. Or the control side lies: the pressure sensor's air tube is blocked so the board never sees empty, the relay on the board never sends voltage to a good pump, or a door code stops the cycle before the drain step is reached. Samsung's guide covers the level, the hose and the filter, its code page the suds; the guides cover the filter and the pump; the board is where every source hands off to a technician.

Treat no voltage at the drain pump during a drain command as a likely PCB relay issue that requires PCB replacement. 6

04 / By symptom

What you see, and what it usually is

Match the symptom, not the part. Each row names the parts in the order the guides and the community check them.

  • Not a fault Drains, then refills; slow drain after a move or a new hose — The hose. Samsung: 6 to 8 inches into the drain pipe, screwed to the back of the washer; iFixit: no more than 7. howtofixit: the end between 30 and 96 inches from the floor. Not a part. 1
  • Not a fault SUd or 5UD; foam — Over-sudsing. Let the cycle finish, switch to measured HE detergent. iFixit: the condition can burn out the pump if it goes on; applianceanalysts' foam article: a suds code can be triggered by a draining issue, so go to the filter. 6
  • DIY part 5C, SC, SE, 5E or nd; pump hums — The debris filter and the pump inlet first: unplug, panel off at the bottom front, drain the front hose into a bucket, clean the filter, turn the impeller. Then the hose and the standpipe. If it still hums with everything clear, the pump (DC31-00054A). 10
  • DIY part 5C or nd with a clean filter and a silent pump — Read the pump: 10 to 60 Ω (iFixit). Open or far outside that is the pump. If it reads good, check for voltage at the pump during the drain command; none means the board's relay, a technician's diagnosis. 6
  • DIY first, then a technician dS, FL or dE (dC on some models); door will not lock — The door lock, after the strike and gasket are clear of clothing. DC34-00024B is on all three of our Samsung files; applianceanalysts tests it for continuity. A lock that tests good and never locks is the board. 1
  • DIY first, then a technician Pump runs, tub empties, code stays — The pressure sensor's air tube (howtofixit's fifth step) and then the sensor itself (DC96-01703B). If it still stalls, iFixit's last step is the PCB. 10
  • Not a fault UE, UB or UR; stops before the spin — An unbalanced load, not a drain fault: Samsung's UE page says the washer stopped the spin for safety, and a single heavy item will not balance. Redistribute, or run Samsung's calibration (hold Temp and Delay End three seconds until CB, then Start). 4

By what the display shows

5C, SC, 5E, SE, nd
The drain family. Samsung (US) groups nd, 5E, SE, 5C and SC as water not draining from the washer at the correct speed, or at all; Samsung (UK): 5C/5E water drainage issue. howtofixit: the code is 5C and reads as SC on the display; nd means the washer failed to drain after at least 15 minutes. Filter, hose, pump, pressure sensor, in that order. 1
SUd, 5UD
Over-sudsing detected (Samsung). Less detergent, HE only; iFixit says the condition can burn out the pump if repeated. 1
dS, FL, dE, dC, DC1
Door not detected as closed or locked (Samsung US and UK lists). Samsung's footnote: on some models dC is a door error and on others an unbalanced-load error, so check the manual before buying a lock. Strike and gasket, then the door lock. 1
1C, 1E, LC, LE
Samsung (US): moisture detected where it does not belong, or a fault in the sensor itself; Samsung (UK): 1C/1E is a water level sensor issue. A blocked pressure tube can show as a level fault. 1
OE, 0E
Too much water in the washer (Samsung US), the opposite of a drain fault; on an LG the same letters mean not draining. 1
UE, UB, UR
Unbalanced load; the spin was stopped for safety (Samsung UE page). Not a drain fault. Calibration: hold Temp and Delay End for three seconds until CB appears, press Start, about three minutes. 4
DC, DE, 3C, TC (on our files)
Attached to our WF330 and WF350 files by vendor videos; on Samsung's UK list DC/DE are the door and 3C the motor. Not drain codes. 3

05 / The routine

Diagnose in this order

Samsung's reset and hose rule first, because they are free; then the filter and the impeller, because they are the pump's inlet; then the pump on the meter, the door lock if the code is the door, and the pressure tube and board last.

  1. Minute 0 Level, then the hose: Samsung's first two steps. Samsung's guide: check the washer is level, then pull it out and verify the hose: 6 to 8 inches into the standpipe or sink, secured, not airtight, not kinked, between 18 and 96 inches high, no extension kit, still screwed to the back of the machine. Its code page's reset, unplug or flip the breaker for one minute, costs nothing to try. If the washer drains and refills, this is the whole fault.
  2. Minute 5 Suds and load. SUd, foam, a packed load: let the cycle settle, then measured HE detergent. iFixit's reason to fix it now: a repeated suds condition can burn out the drain pump.
  3. Minute 20 Drain the front hose, clean the filter, turn the impeller. Unplug. Access panel at the bottom front; drain the small front hose into a shallow pan first, because there can be several gallons behind the filter (911appliance). Clean the debris filter, feel the impeller: strong resistance and distinct magnetic snap points is a good pump (iFixit). Clear the hoses behind it; on newer EcoBubble machines howtofixit adds the recirculation pump.
  4. Hour 1 Pump on the meter; door lock if the code is the door. Pull the pump motor and read it: 10 to 60 Ω is typical for a good pump (iFixit); open or far outside is the part. If the display says dS, FL, dE or dC, the door lock for continuity (applianceanalysts) after the strike and gasket are clear. iFixit's warning: never put any part of your body under a washer that is not securely braced.
  5. Stop Pressure tube, PCB, software. Pump good, code stays: clear the pressure sensor's air tube (howtofixit), then the sensor. Pump good and no voltage at it during a drain command: iFixit says a likely PCB relay, a technician's job. howtofixit adds a SmartThings firmware update. Samsung's warranty term for a washer could not be confirmed on samsung.com in our pass; check your manual before paying for service.
The tell that it is the pump, not the board A pump that hums on the drain command has power; the fault is in front of it (filter, impeller, hose) or in it (worn motor). A pump that is silent, reads 10 to 60 Ω, and shows no voltage on the drain command has a good motor and a board that is not switching it: iFixit's PCB relay. The meter separates a low-cost part from a costly one in one reading. 6

06 / What to expect

What it costs: fix or replace

Every repair cost on this page against the two numbers that decide it: what the washer you have costs to run (our catalogue's median Samsung is $19.77 a year) and what a replacement costs to run (the WF45T60**A* front-loader, the cheapest-to-run published Samsung, is $16.95 a year). On a washer the running-cost gap is small; the decision is the part against the age, and, for a Samsung, how quickly it can be serviced where you live.

  1. $0 Reset, hose depth, suds, debris filter. Samsung's page and every guide start here. howtofixit says the filter every six weeks, 911appliance every three to six months at $0. If the washer drains after the filter is cleared, nothing was broken. 1
  2. Low-cost parts Door-switch cover, pressure sensor, door lock. DC63-00960A genuine, DC96-01703B genuine, DC34-00024B (genuine also listed), DC64-00519B (genuine also listed). 911appliance's range for a lid or door switch is $20–$50 part, $120–$220 fitted. 23
  3. Mid-cost part The drain pump. Motor DC31-00054A, DC31-00054D (genuine also listed), DC31-00187A, DC96-01700A, assembly DC97-20621A (genuine also listed). applianceanalysts' range is $20–$80; 911appliance's $40–$100 part, $150–$280 fitted. On a Samsung front-loader iFixit reaches the pump through the front or bottom panel, and the labor is the cost. 23
  4. $100–$300 part Board. 911appliance's range for a control board is $100–$300 part, $250–$500 fitted; its Samsung page's overall table runs $40–$200. Our WF330ANB file carries two board numbers and the WF350ANW four. A diagnosis, not a continuity test, and the row where an old washer stops being worth it. 14
  5. $20/yr What the washer you have costs to run. The median Samsung washer in our catalogue costs $19.77 a year at the national rate, against $20.71 for all washers; Samsung front-loaders $18.64, top-loaders $22.60. A low-cost pump buys another year of that. 22
  6. $17/yr Replace, and what it costs. The cheapest-to-run published Samsung, the WF45T60**A* front-loader, costs $16.95 a year. The running-cost gap to the median Samsung is $3 a year, which buys nothing; 911appliance's rule is repair if under ten years old and under half a new unit ($500–$1,500). Yale's caution before buying another Samsung is how quickly it can be serviced where you live. 22
The rule the one priced source uses 911appliance: if the washer is less than ten years old and the repair costs less than half the price of a new unit, repair is the better choice. 14

07 / The parts

6 parts, by fault

We did not fit these parts; see the method note.

Each part is the one the corpus files, the guides and the community name for that fault, matched to Amazon listings by part number. Where a genuine Samsung listing exists, the card and the decode table say so.

  1. 5C, SC, SE, nd; hums or silent, filter clean

    Drain pump motor DC31-00054A

DC31-00054A · front or bottom panel · multimeter

On all 3 of our Samsung files and the part the community names most (27% of comments). iFixit: 10 to 60 Ω across the motor, and a good impeller has strong resistance and distinct magnetic snap points; applianceanalysts: a hum is power without flow.

Genuine listing: none found under the rule in the decode note. The lowest listing names DC31-00054A and DC31-00016A together; DC31-00054D below has a Samsung-branded listing. Clean the filter and feel the impeller before you order.

  2. Same fault, when you want the Samsung-branded part

    Drain pump motor DC31-00054D

DC31-00054D · front or bottom panel · multimeter

On all 3 of our Samsung files; the one pump-motor number with a listing that begins with Samsung.

The genuine listing costs more than the compatible one; the decode table shows both with their ASINs.

    Check price on Amazon

  3. Pump housing cracked or leaking, not just the motor

    Drain pump assembly DC97-20621A

DC97-20621A · front or bottom panel

The whole pump on our WF330ANB file, for when the housing or the filter seat is damaged rather than the motor; wikiHow's generic tell for a damaged pump is a weird sound or a leak onto the floor before it stops.

A genuine listing exists but costs more than the compatible one. Most drain faults are the motor, not the housing; check the motor first.

    Check price on Amazon

  4. dS, FL, dE, dC; door will not lock

    Door lock switch DC34-00024B

    DC34-00024B · door boot · continuity

On all 3 of our Samsung files. Samsung: dS, FL and dE mean the door is not detected as closed or locked, and the cycle does not run; applianceanalysts tests the lock for continuity. The community raises a lock or switch in 2% of comments.

A genuine listing exists but costs more than the compatible one. Clear the strike and gasket of trapped clothing first; a door code is not a drain code.

    Check price on Amazon

  5. Pump runs, code stays; 1C or 1E

    Pressure sensor DC96-01703B

    DC96-01703B · top panel · blow test

On all 3 of our Samsung files. howtofixit clears its air tube as the fifth step; iFixit's generic values are under 1 Ω closed and OL when blown into for a switch, 21–23 Ω for a sensor. Samsung reads 1C/1E as a level-sensor fault.

This is a genuine listing; no cheaper listing names the number. Clear the tube before you fit the sensor, because a blocked tube fails the same way for free.

  6. Door will not lock, other number on the files

    Door lock switch DC64-00519B

    DC64-00519B · door boot · continuity

The second door-lock number on our WF330ANB, WF330ANW files; the cover DC63-00960A that goes with it is in the decode table.

A genuine listing exists but costs more than the compatible one. Match the number to your model's parts diagram; our files list the two numbers under different components and do not say whether one replaces the other.

08 / The Samsung question

What is different about a Samsung washer

Three things on the record: a maker whose code page is the best plain-language code list of the three brands and whose warranty term we could not confirm, a second-of-five service rate in 2022 and no rank in 2026 because the dealer stopped carrying the brand, and three recalls that have nothing to do with draining.

Yale Appliance first-year service rate, Samsung front-load washers
4.9%2022 table, second of five (LG 3.3%, GE 8.0%, Whirlpool 9.5%, Maytag 15.0%); absent from the 2026 report, which calls service "the sticking point" 17

  • Maker Incorrect drain hose installation is the most common reason for drain issues, and service is rarely required. 2
  • Dealer Samsung washers were reliable, but service was always the sticking point. Before buying, always check how quickly Samsung can be serviced in your area. 16
  • Service company For top load washers, we recommend Speed Queen. For front load, go with Bosch, Maytag, or Whirlpool. LG and Samsung are two brands to stay away from. 18
What to do with that The dealer's number says a Samsung front-loader was less likely to need a first-year visit than a GE or a Whirlpool; the dealer's words and the repair shops' say the visit is the problem when it comes. That is an argument for doing this repair yourself: the filter is behind a panel, iFixit's teardown reaches the pump with a multimeter value to test it against, and the pump motor is a low-cost part that is on all three of our files. Confirm the warranty in your own manual before you pay for a part; we could not.

The no-drain parts, by part number

Amazon Creators API listings, matched by part number. Genuine = the listing title begins with Samsung, or says Genuine or OEM without also saying for Samsung; and does not say compatible, replacement for, direct replacement, OEM replacement, upgrade, premium, OEM-quality, OEM standard, OEM Mania, OEM produced or fit(s) for. Everything else is listed as compatible. A third-party listing that leads with the brand name, or says OEM without naming the brand, can pass this rule, so the ASIN and title are in the download.

Where they agree

  • The hose has a depth. Samsung says 6 to 8 inches into the drain pipe, iFixit no more than 7, 911appliance no more than 8, howtofixit 6 to 8 with the end between 30 and 96 inches from the floor; the Samsung-specific sources sit within an inch of each other and none of them says zero; iFixit's brand-agnostic troubleshooting page says no more than 4 inches, which Samsung's own 6-inch minimum overrides for this brand.
  • The debris filter is opened before any part is bought. Samsung's guide (third step, front loaders only), howtofixit, applianceanalysts, 911appliance and iFixit (after draining the front hose) all clean it before touching a part; two of them give a cleaning interval (six weeks; three to six months).
  • The pump is the part, and it can be tested. iFixit gives 10 to 60 Ω and the impeller feel; applianceanalysts the hum; our corpus puts it on all three files; every source that prices anything prices it.
  • 5C is SC is 5E is SE is nd. Samsung's two pages, iFixit and both howtofixit articles read the family the same way, and howtofixit explains the display: the code is 5C and looks like SC.

Where they split

  • Six to eight inches, or no more than seven? — Samsung's no-drain guide: not less than 6 and not more than 8 inches into the standpipe or sink, 18 to 96 inches high; its code page says not more than 6 in its no-display section. iFixit: no more than 7 inches (18 cm). 911appliance: no more than 8. howtofixit repeats 6 to 8 and gives the height as 30 to 96 inches. Six inches satisfies every figure on this page, including the code page's stricter no-display line; seven satisfies all but that one. The disagreement is a quibble; the point every source makes is that the hose has a minimum as well as a maximum, because a hose that barely reaches the pipe comes out of it.
  • Is the door lock a drain part? — Samsung's code page: dS, FL and dE are the door, and a front-loader that cannot lock does not run. applianceanalysts tests the door lock motor for continuity, then adds a lid switch and a pump belt that belong to a top-loader. wikiHow's page is written for a lid. iFixit's Samsung teardown never mentions the lock. On a Samsung front-loader the lock decides whether the cycle runs, not whether the pump runs; treat a door code as a door fault and a drain code as a drain fault. The lock is on all three of our files and is a low-cost part, so it is cheap to be wrong about.
  • How reliable is a Samsung washer, and does it matter? — Yale's 2022 table: 4.9%, second of five. Yale's 2026 report: not ranked, "service was always the sticking point." Prudent Reviews: zero of sixteen professionals recommend Samsung, two say avoid it. Consumer Reports: paywalled. The machine's first-year record was good in the one hard series; the trade's objection is what happens after, parts and service. For a drain fault that objection is answered by this page: the parts are on Amazon by number and the diagnosis is a filter, a hum and a resistance reading.

443 comments about a Samsung washer · from 850 threads · r/appliancerepair, r/Appliances, r/HomeImprovement, r/fixit, r/DIY · May 2015 – Sep 2026

We harvested the top-voted threads for eight washer-not-draining queries on r/appliancerepair, r/Appliances, r/HomeImprovement, r/fixit and r/DIY and kept every comment or post about a Samsung washer (threads about other appliances and washer-dryer combos excluded): 443 in all from 850 threads. The shares are the proportion of those comments that raise each theme; a comment can raise more than one. Each quote is a comment or post from the Samsung set, chosen for fit within its theme; its score at harvest is shown, and the ranked candidates for every theme are in the download.

12 / Questions

Frequently asked

Why is my Samsung washer not draining?
Samsung's own list runs through installation and use first: the drain hose 6 to 8 inches into the drain pipe and screwed to the back of the washer, over-sudsing from too much or non-HE detergent, a one-minute unplug to reset. Samsung's guide and every competitor then clean the debris filter behind the bottom-front panel (front-loaders only; Samsung says top loaders have no removable pump filter). Past that it is a part: the drain pump (DC31-00054A, on all three of our Samsung files; 10–60 Ω on iFixit's figure), the door lock if the code is a door code (DC34-00024B), the pressure sensor and its air tube (DC96-01703B), then the board. 121
What does 5C, SC, 5E, SE or nd mean on a Samsung washer?
The drain family. Samsung (US): nd, 5E, SE, 5C and SC mean water not draining from the washer at the correct speed, or at all; Samsung (UK) lists 5C and 5E as the drainage code. howtofixit: the code is 5C and appears as SC on the display, and nd means the washer failed to drain after trying for at least 15 minutes. Filter, hose, pump, pressure tube, in that order. 11011
How do I drain a Samsung front-load washer that is full of water?
Unplug it. Open the access panel at the bottom front; iFixit's order is to pull the small front drain hose and empty it into a plastic bottle, bottle by bottle into a bucket, before opening the debris filter, because 911appliance says there can be several gallons behind the filter. Then twist the filter out, clean it, and turn the impeller. howtofixit's interval for the filter is every six weeks. 614
How far should a Samsung drain hose go into the standpipe?
Samsung: not less than 6 inches and not more than 8 inches into the drain pipe, with the hose still held by the screw on the back of the washer. iFixit says no more than 7 inches (18 cm) and 911appliance no more than 8; howtofixit adds that the hose end should sit between 30 and 96 inches from the floor with an air gap. Six inches satisfies every Samsung figure, including the code page's stricter no-display line, and seven all but that one; iFixit's brand-agnostic page says no more than 4, which Samsung's own minimum overrides. 16
How do I test a Samsung washer drain pump?
Unplug, clear the filter, then iFixit's two tests: turn the impeller (a good one has strong resistance and distinct magnetic snap points as it rotates through several segments) and read the motor with a multimeter, 10 to 60 Ω being typical for a good pump. A hum during the drain step means it has power and cannot move water (applianceanalysts). If it reads good and gets no voltage during a drain command, iFixit says a likely PCB relay. The numbers on our files: DC31-00054A, DC31-00054D, DC97-20621A assembly. 623
My Samsung washer says dS, FL, dE or dC. Is that why it will not drain?
dS, FL and dE are door codes: Samsung says the door is not detected as closed or locked, and a front-loader that cannot lock does not run the cycle. dC is the door on some models and an unbalanced load on others; check your manual before buying a lock. Clear trapped clothing from the strike and the gasket, then test the door lock for continuity (applianceanalysts). DC34-00024B (a genuine listing also exists) is on all three of our Samsung files; DC64-00519B is the other number on them. 121
How much does it cost to fix a Samsung washer that will not drain?
Parts are matched to Amazon listings by part number: door-switch cover, pressure sensor, door lock, pump motor and pump assembly. Check the live price on Amazon. applianceanalysts' range for a pump is $20–$80; 911appliance's fitted ranges are $15–$35 part, $100–$180 fitted for a hose, $40–$100 part, $150–$280 fitted for a pump, $100–$300 part, $250–$500 fitted for a board, and its Samsung page's table runs $40–$200. Samsung's warranty term for a washer could not be confirmed on samsung.com; check your manual. 23145
Is it worth repairing a Samsung washer that will not drain?
For the filter, the lock, the pump or the pressure sensor, yes: the parts are low-cost next to a new washer and iFixit's teardown reaches the pump. 911appliance's rule is repair if the machine is under ten years old and the repair is under half a new one ($500–$1,500). Electricity does not decide it: the median Samsung washer costs $19.77 a year to run and the cheapest-to-run published Samsung, the WF45T60**A*, $16.95. Yale's caution applies to the replacement, not the repair: check how quickly Samsung can be serviced where you live. 221416
Are Samsung washers reliable?
Yale Appliance's 2022 table put Samsung front-loaders at a 4.9% first-year service rate, second of five (LG 3.3%, GE 8.0%, Whirlpool 9.5%, Maytag 15.0%); its 2026 report no longer ranks the brand, and says Samsung washers were reliable but service was always the sticking point. None of the sixteen repair professionals Prudent Reviews consulted recommends Samsung, and two name it as a brand to avoid. Consumer Reports' brand rankings are behind its paywall. 171618
What does the Samsung washer warranty cover?
We could not confirm it. samsung.com's warranty page is a lookup and registration tool with no washer terms in its text, and the only one-year clause it shows concerns products serviced outside the country where they were sold. Your owner's manual carries the term for your model; read it before paying for service or a part. 5
Which Samsung part numbers fit my washer?
From our WF330ANB, WF330ANW and WF350ANW files: drain pump DC31-00054A, DC31-00054D, DC31-00187A, DC31-00178D, DC31-00016A, DC96-01700A and the assembly DC97-20621A; pressure sensor DC96-01703B; door lock DC34-00024B, DC64-00519B and the cover DC63-00960A. Three more numbers on the files (DC96-01703F, 092512631, DC97-16530D) had no Amazon listing naming them. Check the parts diagram for your model tag before ordering. 21
