About Verified Appliance Data

This site is a pre-launch scaffold. The domain isn't purchased yet and the real data pipeline (DOE CCMS + ENERGY STAR pulls) hasn't run. This page describes the intended site — see methodology for exactly what's real today vs. planned.

What we do

Verified Appliance Data answers the question appliance shopping rarely makes easy, especially when you're replacing something that just broke: "What does this actually cost to run, and is the advertised capacity real?"

We plan to chain together three data layers that are usually scattered or buried under marketing copy:

Certified performance data — IMEF/IWF (washers), CEF (dryers), water use and kWh/yr (dishwashers), and DOE-adjusted volume (refrigerators/freezers), pulled from DOE certification (CCMS) and ENERGY STAR, joined on the certified model number
The capacity-truth wedge — advertised volume vs. DOE-adjusted volume, published side by side, never conflated
Real running cost — computed annual dollar cost from certified kWh/yr and EIA energy prices

Why we're building this

Appliance shopping online is dominated by retailer star ratings and vendor marketing copy, and about 3 in 4 homeowners (76%, American Home Shield, 2025, n=1,007) wait until their old appliance fails to replace it — buyers need a fast, honest verdict, not a wall of SKUs to research for a week. We believe efficiency and capacity data should be free, structured, sourced, and easy to check — whether you're reading it yourself or an AI assistant is answering your question about which washer to buy.

Editorial standards

Efficiency and capacity specs are sourced from DOE certification (CCMS) and ENERGY STAR, cited to the record
Running cost is computed the same way for every unit — the formula is published, not hidden
We do not run star ratings or a proprietary scoring algorithm
We do not accept payment for placement, ranking, or removal of unfavorable data
Where a source registry does not disclose a spec, the field is marked "not published" rather than filled in with an estimate

Who writes this — and who stands behind it

Verified Appliance Data is founded by Erin Rose. It is not funded by appliance manufacturers, and no brand or retailer pays for placement, a ranking, or a favorable review.

We want to be straight about authorship: Erin is a data engineer, not a licensed appliance repair technician or engineer. Every page is built from primary sources — DOE certification data, ENERGY STAR, EIA energy prices — and every computed number is checkable. Erin also founded Verified Supplement Data, Verified Pet Food Data and CareCost Estimate, which apply the same primary-source, no-ratings approach to their respective categories.

DOE CCMS (regulations.doe.gov/certification-data) — certified efficiency and capacity ratings, full market coverage
ENERGY STAR (energystar.gov) — certification and Most Efficient designations, UPC, dates
EIA (eia.gov) — electricity prices used in running-cost math (not yet wired — see methodology)

This site provides appliance performance and cost information based on official certification data. It is not repair or installation advice. Real-world energy use varies with household size, usage habits, water hardness, and local utility rates. We do not conduct our own laboratory testing — data reflects the certified ratings on file.
