Verdict guides, decided by the data

Pick a category and pick what you care about — each shortlist below is the top 10 out of the real candidate pool, computed at build time from certified DOE/ENERGY STAR data, not a star rating or a paid placement. 6,456 of our 15,732 certified products have a full spec page and are eligible to appear; a category only gets a ranking here when at least 3 products actually qualify for it.

Cheapest to run, per cubic foot

Top 10 of 4,564 refrigerators that carry a DOE test-basis volume, ranked by running cost per cubic foot. Ranking on total cost alone would just put the smallest units on top — a compact costs less to run because it holds less, which is not the same as being cheaper to own.

Every number above comes straight from DOE certification (CCMS) and ENERGY STAR — nothing here is a star rating or a paid placement. Running cost is computed from certified kWh/yr and EIA national average electricity prices, so "cheapest to run" ranks models against each other, not against your actual bill; your rate, usage habits and local climate will move the real number. A category only gets a ranking for a given criterion when at least 3 published products actually qualify — we omit the ranking rather than pad it out. See methodology for the full computation, and the full product database to search all 15,732 certified products directly.
