LG Washer Not Draining (OE): LG's 15-Second Test, the Part It Usually Is, and What It Costs
1 LG washer repair file · 510 community comments · 93 LG washers in our catalogue · LG's own pages and manual read and quoted
Run LG's own test before you buy anything: SPIN ONLY at HIGH, and listen for the first fifteen seconds. A hum means the pump is alive and OE is the filter (front-load only, bottom-left panel, monthly) or the hose behind the machine; silence means the pump or its circuit, which is where LG's page says "repair service" and this page keeps going. The part on our WM4000HBA file is the drain pump (10–40 Ω on iFixit's generic figure; an iFixit owner's was a semi-seized impeller), and the part LG never mentions is the pressure switch, a low-cost part, whose rubber hose fills with gunk and throws OE with a brand-new pump, a howtofixit reader's fix that cost nothing. Yale's numbers say an LG front-loader is the washer least likely to need the visit at all (2.7% first-year service rate, the best it sells); LG's warranty pays parts and labor for a year and excludes a clogged standpipe. The order on this page is LG's: hose, hum test, filter, tub clean; then the pump on the meter, the pressure hose, the board.

LG's own OE routine
hose behind the washer · SPIN ONLY at HIGH, listen 15 s · drain pump filter · TUB CLEAN with less detergent
LG's OE page in order: check the hose for kinks and clogs (the washer needs 4 inches behind it and 1 inch each side, or the hose crushes); run SPIN ONLY and listen for the pump's hum in the first 15 seconds; if it hums, open the bottom-left panel, drain the small hose into a pan ("The water may be hot"), twist the filter out counter-clockwise and clean it with a soft brush; run TUB CLEAN with reduced detergent, because suds make air pockets the pump cannot move. Top-loaders have no filter: hose, then SPIN ONLY.

Drain pump, then the pressure switch
AHA75853803 · pressure switch EBF63534901 · pump 10–40 Ω (iFixit, generic)
LG's page stops at "repair service" here; the part on our WM4000HBA file is the pump, and iFixit's generic figure is 10–40 Ω across the motor. An iFixit owner with the same symptom found a semi-seized impeller; a howtofixit reader replaced the pump, found OE still there, and cleared the pressure-switch line (the rubber hose and the receptacle it plugs into) of gunk. Read the pump before you buy it, and blow through the pressure hose before you buy the switch.

Drain hose
AEM74772903 genuine · end ≤ 96 in (66 in best) · elbow within 4 in of the end
The second part on our WM4000HBA file. LG's rules for refitting: the end no higher than 96 inches above the bottom of the washer (66 for best performance on this model), the elbow bracket within 4 inches of the hose end or mold spreads back into the washer, and the machine pulled 4 inches off the wall. Usually the fix is repositioning the hose you have.

LG's own diagnosis of OE, in order: "An OE error code indicates the washing machine is unable to drain the water used during the wash cycle. An OE error code can be caused by a kinked drain hose or a clogged drain pump filter." Check the hose behind the washer; then run SPIN ONLY at HIGH and listen: "a humming sound, and possibly the sound of water draining will be heard for the first 15 seconds." A hum means the pump is alive and the filter is next; no hum, or OE again after the tub clean, means "repair service." 1
LG Help Library, What is a Front Load Washing Machine OE Error Code? (dated 2026-09-03 on the page) and LG Front Load Washer Error Code List (2026-03-09), which gives the aliases E03 and E21 for the same fault. LG's general drain page (2025-10-29) puts the filter first and the hose second, adds a frozen hose (warm water at 122–140°F, wait one to two hours) and carries a hot-water caution the OE page does not.

Yale Appliance's 2026 washer report puts LG front-loaders at a 2.7% first-year service rate, the lowest of the three front-load brands it sells (GE Appliances 8.5%, GE Profile 10.5%, category average 4.6%), and LG top-loaders at 3.9%, second of four (GE Profile 3.4%, Speed Queen 4.6%, GE 7.1%). Its 2022 table had LG at 3.3%, first of five. The professionals Prudent Reviews consulted split: one Grand Rapids shop says stay away from LG, another recommends LG or GE as having the least service issues. 22

Our corpus holds one LG washer file, the WM4000HBA front-loader, and it names two no-drain parts: the drain pump AHA75853803 and the drain hose AEM74772903, with the pressure switch EBF63534901 and the door lock EBF61315802 on the same file. Its manual's own OE line: "An OE message blinks on the display when the drain pump filter is clogged with dirt. Clean the drain pump filter." 27
Our repair corpus, one LG washer model file built from vendor repair videos and parts catalogues and bound to LG's WM4000HBA owner's manual (MFL71964303). LG's washer failure profile in our data gives the drain pump 33.5%, the lid lock 17.1% and the water inlet valve 16.7% of repair-video attention, figures identical to the any-brand washer profile, so not LG-specific. Attention share, not a failure rate. No LG page, iFixit page or competitor we read prints a part number.

The genuine drain hose is the cheapest listing that names its number. applianceanalysts' range for a pump is $20–$80; 911appliance's $40–$100 part, $150–$280 fitted. 29

- 96 in
LG's hose figures, which are three different numbers for three different things: the end of the drain hose no higher than 96 inches (2.4 m) above the bottom of the washer, the hard limit on its install page and in the WM4000HBA manual; no higher than 66 inches (168 cm) "for best performance" on that model; and 53 inches above the floor for the SideKick pedestal washer, because "The washer cannot push the water any higher." A top-loader throws OE after 13 minutes of failed draining; a paused cycle force-drains after 8 minutes and shows DR. 4
LG Help Library, Top Load Washer: How to Install the Drain Hose (2026-05-29), LG Washer Error Code List (pedestal tab, 2026-09-03), LG Top Load Washer: Troubleshooting an OE Error Code (2026-07-24); LG WM4000HBA owner's manual. wikiHow's LG page says the hose should not exceed 6 cm from the floor, which is inconsistent with every LG figure and is not used here; applianceanalysts gives a 34-inch minimum LG does not state.
- $20 vs $15
The median LG washer in our catalogue costs $19.77 a year to run (front-loaders $19.77, top-loaders $26.36), against $20.71 for all washers; the cheapest-to-run published LG, the WM3420C front-loader, $15.06; the WM4000H*A itself, the model our file is bound to, costs $19.77 a year. The running-cost gap is $5 a year and buys nothing; the decision is the part against the machine's age. 28
annual_cost_usd on 119 LG washer records (93 published) at the catalogue's EIA national residential rate ($0.1883/kWh, April 2026); 911appliance's rule: repair if under ten years old and under half the price of a new unit ($500–$1,500).

03 / Which cause
The causes, in the order to check them, with the part to check
LG's routine first (hose, hum test, filter, suds), because it is free and its hum test is the diagnosis; then the parts in the order the guides and the corpus agree on: the pump, the pressure switch and its hose, the door lock only if the code is a door code, then the harness and the board. Every part below is matched by part number from our WM4000HBA file; no other source names one.
| Cause | What you notice | The check | Part |
|---|---|---|---|
| Drain hose: kinked, crushed, frozen, too high | OE; drains slowly; the washer sits tight to the wall or was just moved; a cold laundry room. | LG's first cause on the OE page and its second on the general page. Pull the washer out (4 inches behind, 1 inch each side), straighten the hose, check the end is under 96 inches (66 for best performance on the WM4000HBA) and the elbow bracket within 4 inches of the end. Frozen: warm water at 122–140°F into the drum, wait one to two hours. Disconnect the hose from the standpipe and run Spin: if water comes out, the household drain is the clog. | $0 · genuine drain hose AEM74772903 if the hose is damaged |
| Drain pump filter (front-load only) | OE; SPIN ONLY hums for 15 seconds and nothing drains; slow drain for weeks. | LG's second cause, and the filter is the manual's only OE line. Bottom-left panel, drain hose unclipped into a shallow pan (do not pull it too far or it kinks; push it back an inch if nothing comes), filter twisted counter-clockwise, cleaned with a soft brush and warm water, never in a dishwasher, monthly. LG: "The drain pump filter is only present on LG frontload washers and combo units." Top-loaders do not have one. | $0 · monthly (LG) |
| Suds | OE with a clean filter and a clear hose; foam. | LG: "excessive suds could have triggered the error code by creating air pockets that the drain pump cannot effectively remove. Once the drain pump begins sucking air instead of water, the pump signals a drain issue to the unit." Run TUB CLEAN with reduced detergent. | $0 · less detergent, HE |
| Drain pump | No hum on SPIN ONLY; or hums with a clean filter and a clear hose and OE returns. | LG's page ends here: "The unit requires a repair service." The part on our WM4000HBA file. iFixit's generic figure: 10–40 Ω across the pump motor. An iFixit owner with OE at the end of the cycle found the impeller semi-seized; another says the pump is a magnetic impeller with no moving parts to speak of and can sometimes be cleaned rather than replaced. applianceanalysts: newer LG models make the pump harder to reach than older ones. | AHA75853803 (no listing passes the genuine rule) |
| Pressure switch and its rubber hose | Pump replaced, OE persists; or IE with it. | The step LG never lists. A howtofixit reader: "Replaced pump. Not the problem. Disconnected black rubber hose from pressure switch at top (near board) and blew into it. A lot of resistance...It was totally full of gunk." (the gunk, the reader goes on, was in the white plastic receptacle on the drain manifold that the hose plugs into.) applianceanalysts' test: pull the hose off the water-level sensor with some water in the tub and blow; if you hear it bubble, the hose is clear. iFixit's generic values: a switch under 1 Ω closed and OL when blown into, a sensor commonly 21–23 Ω. | EBF63534901 |
| Door lock (front-load); lid switch (top-load) | dE and its variants, or the cycle never reaches the drain. | A door code, not a drain code: the WM4000HBA manual lists dE/dE1/dEz/dE4 as door open. wikiHow's LG page: if the lid switch does not work properly, the washer will not drain or spin; applianceanalysts' won't-drain page ends on a faulty door switch. On the WM4000HBA file as EBF61315802. | EBF61315802 |
| Wiring, control board | Pump reads good, gets no power on the drain step. | iFixit's last three causes: the harness, then the timer, then the board, which it calls "The end of the line." RepairClinic starts its LG list with the timer, the pump and the board, on a page that never mentions OE. The WM4000HBA file's board is EBR86771821. | technician · EBR86771821 on the file; 911appliance: $100–$300 part, $250–$500 fitted |
- Maker Do not pull the hose too far out. It will kink the hose and prevent the water from draining out. If no water is draining (coming out), push the drain hose back in about 1 inch to remove any potential kink. 1
- Maker The end of the drain hose is more than 96 inches (2.4 m) above the bottom of the washer. Move the end of the drain hose so that it is lower than 96 inches (2.4 m). For best performance, the end of the drain hose should be no higher than 66 inches (168 cm). 27
- Owner found the impeller was semi seized have ordered a new pump unit. 10
LG washer OE: why the hum test works
An LG front-loader drains by pumping water from the tub, through the drain pump filter, through the pump and up the drain hose to a standpipe, and the board watches the water-level pressure switch to know when the tub is empty; OE is the board giving up on that report. LG's fifteen-second test splits the fault at the pump: a hum on SPIN ONLY is a motor with power and nothing to move, so the block is in front of it (the filter, the tub-to-pump path, a hose kinked or above 96 inches, or, LG says, suds making air pockets the pump sucks instead of water); silence is the motor, its harness or the board's relay. What the test cannot see is the sensor side: a pressure switch whose rubber hose is blocked never reports empty, and the board throws OE over a pump that is doing its job, which is why a howtofixit reader replaced a pump that was not the fault. A top-loader has no filter and gets a timer instead, OE after 13 minutes of failed draining, and the same hose-then-pump logic. The board is where LG's page, iFixit and every competitor hand off.
If the drain pump filter is free of debris or clogs, excessive suds could have triggered the error code by creating air pockets that the drain pump cannot effectively remove. Once the drain pump begins sucking air instead of water, the pump signals a drain issue to the unit. 1
04 / By symptom
What you see, and what it usually is
Match the symptom, not the part. Each row names the parts in the order the guides and the community check them.
- Not a fault OE on a front-loader; SPIN ONLY hums for 15 seconds — LG: the pump is running, so the filter is the fault. Bottom-left panel, drain into a pan, filter out counter-clockwise, brush, back in clockwise, TUB CLEAN. Monthly after that. 1
- Not a fault OE on a top-loader (or 13 minutes of failed draining) — No filter to clean: LG's top-load page goes hose (pinched between the washer and the wall), then SPIN ONLY; with no SPIN ONLY option, start a cycle and pause it, and after 8 minutes it force-drains and shows DR. 5
- Not a fault OE on a SideKick pedestal washer — Its own rule: the drain no more than 53 inches above the floor, "The washer cannot push the water any higher." Press EXTRA RINSE five times until the SPIN ONLY light activates, or drain by the tube on the inner left of the door. 6
- Not a fault OE in a cold laundry room — A frozen drain hose, LG's third cause on its general page: warm water at 122–140°F into the drum, wait one to two hours. 2
- DIY part OE, no hum on SPIN ONLY — LG says repair service. The part is the pump (AHA75853803): read it at 10–40 Ω (iFixit, generic), turn the impeller, check for voltage at the pump on the drain step (iFixit's test on its Samsung guide). An iFixit owner's was a semi-seized impeller. 8
- DIY part OE after a new pump — The pressure switch's line, its rubber hose and the receptacle it plugs into, full of gunk in a howtofixit reader's case: pull it off the sensor and blow through it with water in the tub (applianceanalysts). Then the switch (EBF63534901). 13
- DIY first, then a technician Pump and switch test good; no power to the pump — Harness, then the board (EBR86771821 on our file): iFixit's end of the line and a technician's diagnosis. Inside the first year LG's warranty pays parts and labor; a clogged external drain line is excluded. 7
By what the display shows
- OE (front-load); also shown as E03 or E21
- Unable to drain: kinked drain hose or clogged drain pump filter (LG). Hose, SPIN ONLY hum test, filter, TUB CLEAN, then service. 1
- OE (top-load)
- Unable to drain for 13 minutes (LG). Hose pinched behind the washer, then SPIN ONLY; force-drain by pausing a cycle, 8 minutes to DR. No filter on a top-loader. 5
- OE (SideKick pedestal)
- Drain hose clogged, kinked or pinched, or the drain above 53 inches (LG). EXTRA RINSE five times for SPIN ONLY, or the manual drain tube inside the door. 6
- DR
- A top-loader draining after a paused cycle timed out at 8 minutes (LG). Not a fault. 5
- IE, E02, E10
- Water inlet error: the tub did not fill to an adequate level in time (LG). Not a drain code, though howtofixit calls IE and OE the two commonest LG codes together. 6
- UE
- Unbalanced load, the spin stopped (LG). Not a drain code; the recall of 2012 was for excessive vibration on three top-load models, not draining. 6
- dE, dE1, dEz, dE4
- Door open (WM4000HBA manual). The door lock, after the strike and gasket. 27
- 0E (zero) on lgparts.com; "Outlet Error" on fredsappliance.com
- Third-party labels: lgparts.com prints the code with a zero and lists it twice with different text; fredsappliance's gloss: "Outlet Error" matches LG's own "OE (Water Outlet Error)" label on its general drain page; "Obstruction Error" appears on no LG page we read. 17
05 / The routine
Diagnose in this order
LG's routine as LG wrote it, with the hum test where LG puts it; then the part LG's page hands to a service call, and the one it never mentions.
- Minute 0 The hose, then LG's 15-second test. Pull the washer 4 inches off the wall, straighten the hose, check the end is under 96 inches (66 on the WM4000HBA) and not frozen. POWER on, SPIN SPEED to HIGH, START/PAUSE: a hum and possibly draining in the first 15 seconds means the pump is alive.
- Minute 5 The filter (front-load only). Unplug. Bottom-left panel open, small drain hose unclipped and capped into a shallow pan (the water may be hot; do not pull the hose too far or it kinks). Filter out counter-clockwise, towel ready; brush it in warm water, never a dishwasher; housing brushed; back in clockwise until it stops. LG says monthly. A top-loader has none: hose, then SPIN ONLY.
- Minute 20 TUB CLEAN, and the household drain. TUB CLEAN with reduced detergent, LG's suds step. If OE persists, disconnect the hose from the standpipe and run Spin into a bucket: water out of the hose means the drain pipe is the clog, not the washer (LG's general page).
- Hour 1 Pump and pressure hose on the meter. No hum, or OE again with everything clear: read the pump at 10–40 Ω (iFixit, generic), turn the impeller, check for voltage at the pump on the drain step (iFixit's test on its Samsung guide). Pull the rubber hose off the pressure switch with water in the tub and blow: bubbles means clear (applianceanalysts); gunk in it is the howtofixit reader's fix. Switch under 1 Ω closed, OL when blown into.
- Stop Harness and board; the warranty. Pump and switch good, no power to the pump: harness, then the board, a technician's diagnosis. LG's warranty is one year parts and labor on any part, ten years parts-only on the direct-drive motor's stator and rotor; damage from "restricted drain lines" is excluded, so a clogged standpipe is not a warranty call. Inside the year, book LG.
06 / What to expect
What it costs: fix or replace
Every repair cost on this page against the two numbers that decide it: what the washer you have costs to run (our catalogue's median LG is $19.77 a year) and what a replacement costs to run (the WM3420C front-loader, the cheapest-to-run published LG, is $15.06 a year). On a washer the running-cost gap is small; the decision is the part against the age, and on an LG the part is cheap and the visit is rare.
- $0 Hose, hum test, filter, TUB CLEAN, drain pipe. LG's whole OE page. iFixit's WM3250H guide: "A dirty washing machine filter is the primary cause of things like failure to drain, excessive noise, error codes, etc." 911appliance prices the filter at $0. If OE clears after the filter, nothing was broken. 1
- $20–$50 part Pressure switch, door lock. The pressure switch EBF63534901 and the door lock EBF61315802 each have compatible and genuine listings. 911appliance's range for a door or lid switch is $20–$50 part, $120–$220 fitted. Blow through the pressure hose before buying the switch. 29
- $40–$100 part Drain pump, drain hose. AHA75853803, no listing passing the genuine rule; AEM74772903, where the genuine listing is the cheapest of seven that name the number. applianceanalysts' range for a pump is $20–$80; 911appliance's $40–$100 part, $150–$280 fitted, $15–$35 part, $100–$180 fitted for a hose. applianceanalysts: older LG models are easier and cheaper to repair, and on a new model reaching the pump is harder; fredsappliance's teardown goes top, soap drawer, front panel, boot clamp, door-lock harness before the pump. 29
- $100–$300 part Board. EBR86771821 on our WM4000HBA file; 911appliance's range is $100–$300 part, $250–$500 fitted. A diagnosis, not a continuity test, and at this cost the row where an LG out of warranty is weighed against a new one. 27
- $20/yr What the washer you have costs to run. The median LG washer in our catalogue costs $19.77 a year at the national rate, against $20.71 for all washers; LG front-loaders $19.77, top-loaders $26.36. Yale's 2.7% says an LG front-loader is the washer least likely to need the first-year visit among the brands it sells. 28
- $15/yr Replace, and what it costs. The cheapest-to-run published LG, the WM3420C front-loader, costs $15.06 a year; the WM4000H*A, the model our file is bound to, costs $19.77 a year. The running-cost gap to the median LG is $5 a year and decides nothing; 911appliance's rule is repair if under ten years old and under half a new unit ($500–$1,500). 28

OE, no hum on SPIN ONLY; or hums with a clean filter and a clear hose
Drain pump assembly AHA75853803
AHA75853803 · front panel · multimeter
On our WM4000HBA file and the part the community names most (28% of comments). LG's page stops at "repair service" here; iFixit's generic figure is 10–40 Ω across the motor, and an iFixit owner with OE at the end of the cycle found the impeller semi-seized.
No listing passes the genuine rule; this is a compatible listing that names the number. applianceanalysts: the pump is harder to reach on newer LG models, and fredsappliance's teardown goes through the top, the soap drawer and the front panel first.
-
OE after a new pump; pump hums and water moves
Pressure switch EBF63534901
EBF63534901 · top panel · blow test
On our WM4000HBA file, and the part LG's pages never mention. A howtofixit reader's OE survived a new pump and was the switch's line, hose and receptacle, full of gunk; applianceanalysts' blow test finds that for nothing. iFixit's generic values: under 1 Ω closed, OL when blown into.
A genuine listing exists but costs more than the compatible one. Clear the hose before you buy the switch.
-
Hose crushed, split or kinked behind the washer
Drain hose AEM74772903
AEM74772903 · rear · no tools
The second no-drain part on our WM4000HBA file. LG's rules for refitting: the end under 96 inches (66 for best performance on this model), the elbow within 4 inches of the end, 4 inches of clearance behind the washer.
Genuine, and the cheapest listing that names the number; the compatible ones cost more. Usually the fix is repositioning the hose you have.
-
dE; door will not lock; the cycle never reaches the drain
Door lock switch EBF61315802
EBF61315802 · door boot · continuity
On our WM4000HBA file. A door code, not a drain code; wikiHow's LG page says a lid switch that does not work stops the drain and the spin, and applianceanalysts' won't-drain page ends on the door switch. The community raises a lock or switch in 1% of comments.
A genuine listing exists but costs more than the compatible one (sold with a latch hook). Clear the strike and gasket first.

08 / The LG question
What is different about an LG washer
Three things on the record: a maker whose OE page is a diagnostic procedure with a fifteen-second test in it, the best front-load service rate in the one series that measures washers, and a warranty whose two official texts disagree about the drum.
- Yale Appliance first-year service rate, LG front-load washers
- 2.7%2026 report, lowest of the three front-load brands Yale sells (GE 8.5%, GE Profile 10.5%; average 4.6%); 3.3% and first of five in the 2022 table; top-load 3.9%, second of four 22
- Repair professionals recommending LG
- 2 of 16Prudent Reviews, 2026; one Grand Rapids shop says stay away from LG, another recommends LG or GE as having the least service issues 25
- LG warranty on a washer
- 1 yrparts and labor on any part; 10 years parts-only on the direct-drive motor's stator and rotor; the drum is lifetime in LG's warranty PDF and three years in the WM4000HBA manual; "restricted drain lines" excluded 7
- CPSC recalls of LG washers

The no-drain parts, by part number
Amazon Creators API listings, matched by part number. Genuine = the listing title begins with LG, or says Genuine or OEM without also saying for LG; and does not say compatible, replacement for, direct replacement, OEM replacement, upgrade, premium, OEM-quality, OEM standard, OEM Mania, OEM produced or fit(s) for. Everything else is listed as compatible. A third-party listing that leads with the brand name, or says OEM without naming the brand, can pass this rule, so the ASIN and title are in the download.
4 part numbers from our LG washer repair file (no guide we read prints one), matched to Amazon listings by number. The table shows whether a genuine listing was found and which corpus model files carry the part.
- Genuine listing found
- 75%3 of 4 products
- In a corpus model file
- 100%4 of 4 products
- DIY-rated
- 100%4 of 4 products
- 3 of 4 part numbers have a listing that passes the genuine rule; all 4 have a compatible listing. On 2 parts a compatible listing undercuts the genuine one; on 1 part the genuine listing is the cheapest.
- The drain pump AHA75853803 has no listing that passes the genuine rule; the drain hose AEM74772903's genuine listing is the cheapest of seven that name the number.
- All four numbers are the WM4000HBA file's; the file's control board EBR86771821 is left out because it is a diagnosis, not a continuity test. No LG page, iFixit page or competitor we read supplied a part number to add.
| Part | Part number | Fault | Corpus files | DIY |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Drain pump assembly | AHA75853803 | OE, no hum on SPIN ONLY; or hums with a clean filter | 1 | yes |
| Drain hose | AEM74772903 | hose kinked, crushed or split | 1 | yes |
| Pressure switch (water level) | EBF63534901 | OE after a new pump; hose clear | 1 | yes |
| Door lock switch | EBF61315802 | dE; door will not lock | 1 | yes |
Genuine listing found means a listing passed the genuine rule in the note above. Corpus files = how many of our model files list the part. DIY is our call, reachable with a panel off and a multimeter per the guides' teardowns; no guide rates parts.

Where they agree
- Hose and filter are the fault until proven otherwise. LG's three pages, howtofixit, applianceanalysts, fredsappliance, wikiHow and 911appliance all start with one or the other; they differ only on which comes first.
- The hum test is the diagnosis. LG's 15-second SPIN ONLY listen, fredsappliance's hum test, howtofixit's hum at the bottom left, applianceanalysts' spin-only test and Yale's "if the washer hums but does not drain" are the same test with the same reading: a hum is a live pump with a blocked inlet.
- The filter is front-load only. LG says it in so many words, its top-load OE page has no filter step, and applianceanalysts marks the filter "front-load only"; a top-loader's OE is the hose and the pump.
- Nobody names a part number. LG, iFixit, and every competitor describe the pump, filter and hose generically; the four numbers on this page are our WM4000HBA file's and no one else's.
Where they split
- Hose first, or filter first? — LG's OE page: hose, then the hum test, then the filter. LG's general drain page, fredsappliance's WM3170CW guide, wikiHow and 911appliance: the filter, "the most common culprit." howtofixit and applianceanalysts: the hose. The hum test settles it in fifteen seconds: a hum sends you to the filter, silence to the pump, and the hose is a glance behind the machine either way. Do the glance, then the test, then whichever it points to.
- How high can the hose go? — LG: 96 inches above the bottom of the washer, the hard limit; 66 inches for best performance on the WM4000HBA; 53 inches for the SideKick pedestal. applianceanalysts: no less than 34 and no more than 96. iFixit (generic): the outlet under 8 feet. wikiHow: 6 cm, which cannot be right. Three LG numbers for three machines, none in conflict. The competitors' minimums (34 inches) and wikiHow's figure appear on no LG page; use the manual for your model.
- How reliable is an LG washer? — Yale 2026: 2.7% front-load, the best it sells; 3.9% top-load, second. Yale 2022: 3.3%, first of five. Consumer Reports: LG was 60% of its members' washer purchases in the first three quarters of 2025; the score is paywalled. Prudent Reviews' professionals: one says stay away, one says LG or GE have the least service issues; two of sixteen recommend the brand. The one hard series has LG first among front-loaders in both years it published, on the largest sales base of any brand; the trade's split is opinion against a number. What the number does not say is how easy the pump is to reach, which applianceanalysts says got harder on newer models.

12 / Questions
Frequently asked
- What does OE mean on an LG washer?
- LG: "An OE error code indicates the washing machine is unable to drain the water used during the wash cycle. An OE error code can be caused by a kinked drain hose or a clogged drain pump filter." Some front-load displays show E03 or E21 for the same fault; a top-loader shows OE after 13 minutes of failed draining. fredsappliance's gloss "Outlet Error" matches the "Water Outlet Error" label on LG's general drain page; its "Obstruction Error" appears on no LG page we read. 15
- How do I fix an OE error on an LG front-load washer?
- LG's routine, in order: straighten the drain hose behind the washer; run SPIN ONLY at HIGH and listen for the pump's hum in the first 15 seconds; if it hums, unplug, open the bottom-left panel, drain the small hose into a shallow pan (the water may be hot), twist the filter out counter-clockwise, clean it with a soft brush and warm water, refit it clockwise; run TUB CLEAN with reduced detergent. If OE returns, or there was no hum, LG says repair service; the part is the pump. 12
- Where is the drain pump filter on an LG washer, and does a top-loader have one?
- Behind the small access door at the bottom left of the front panel on a front-loader (LG; 911appliance). LG: "The drain pump filter is only present on LG frontload washers and combo units." A top-loader does not have one. Clean it monthly. 319
- How do I test an LG washer drain pump?
- LG's test is the SPIN ONLY hum in the first 15 seconds: a hum means the pump has power and the filter is the fault; no hum means the pump or its circuit. On the meter, iFixit's generic figure is 10–40 Ω across the pump motor; turn the impeller, which an iFixit owner found semi-seized. The WM4000HBA's pump is AHA75853803; applianceanalysts says the pump is harder to reach on newer LG models. 1829
- I replaced the drain pump and my LG still shows OE. What now?
- The pressure switch's rubber hose. A howtofixit reader: "Replaced pump. Not the problem. Disconnected black rubber hose from pressure switch at top (near board) and blew into it. A lot of resistance...It was totally full of gunk." (the gunk, the reader goes on, was in the white plastic receptacle on the drain manifold that the hose plugs into.) applianceanalysts' test: pull the hose off the sensor with some water in the tub and blow; bubbles means clear. Then the switch itself (EBF63534901; under 1 Ω closed, OL when blown into, per iFixit), then the harness and the board. 13148
- How high can an LG drain hose go?
- LG's hard limit is 96 inches (2.4 m) above the bottom of the washer; the WM4000HBA manual says 66 inches (168 cm) for best performance; the SideKick pedestal washer's limit is 53 inches above the floor. The elbow bracket goes within 4 inches of the hose end. applianceanalysts' 34-inch minimum and wikiHow's 6 cm appear on no LG page. 427
- How much does it cost to fix an LG washer that will not drain?
- From our WM4000HBA file, the parts are matched to Amazon listings by part number: pressure switch EBF63534901, door lock EBF61315802, drain pump AHA75853803, genuine drain hose AEM74772903 and the board EBR86771821. Check the live price on Amazon. applianceanalysts' range for a pump is $20–$80; 911appliance's fitted ranges are $15–$35 part, $100–$180 fitted for a hose, $40–$100 part, $150–$280 fitted for a pump and $100–$300 part, $250–$500 fitted for a board. Inside the first year LG's warranty covers parts and labor. 29197
- Is it worth repairing an LG washer that will not drain?
- For the filter, the hose, the switch or the pump, yes: the parts are low-cost next to a new washer and Yale's numbers say an LG front-loader is the least likely to need a service visit of the brands it sells. 911appliance's rule is repair if the machine is under ten years old and the repair is under half a new one ($500–$1,500). Electricity does not decide it: the median LG washer costs $19.77 a year to run and the cheapest-to-run published LG, the WM3420C, $15.06. The board is where the question changes. 281922
- Are LG washers reliable?
- Yale Appliance's 2026 report: LG front-loaders 2.7%, the lowest first-year service rate of the front-load brands it sells (GE 8.5%, GE Profile 10.5%), and LG top-loaders 3.9%, second of four; in its 2022 table LG was 3.3%, first of five. Consumer Reports says LG was 60% of its members' washer purchases in the first three quarters of 2025 but keeps the reliability score behind its paywall. Of the sixteen repair professionals Prudent Reviews consulted, two recommend LG; one Grand Rapids shop says stay away from LG and another says LG or GE have the least service issues. 222425
- What does the LG washer warranty cover?
- LG's warranty PDF and the WM4000HBA manual agree on the main term: one year parts and labor on any internal or functional part, ten years parts-only on the direct-drive motor's stator and rotor (the PDF adds the Hall sensor). They disagree on the stainless drum: lifetime parts-only in the PDF, three years in the manual. Damage from "restricted drain lines" is excluded, so a clogged standpipe is not a warranty call. Replacement parts are warranted for the rest of the original term or 90 days, whichever is longer. 727
- Which LG part numbers fit my washer?
- From our WM4000HBA file: drain pump AHA75853803, drain hose AEM74772903, pressure switch EBF63534901, door lock EBF61315802, control board EBR86771821. No LG page, iFixit page or competitor we read prints a drain-part number; fredsappliance's teardown lists twenty older model numbers it applies to (WM2233HW, WM3470HWA and others) without part numbers. Check the parts diagram for your model tag before ordering. 2716

What 510 LG washer comments say
510 comments about an LG washer · from 850 threads · r/appliancerepair, r/Appliances, r/HomeImprovement, r/fixit, r/DIY · Feb 2015 – Sep 2026
We harvested the top-voted threads for eight washer-not-draining queries on r/appliancerepair, r/Appliances, r/HomeImprovement, r/fixit and r/DIY and kept every comment or post about an LG washer (threads about other appliances and washer-dryer combos excluded): 510 in all from 850 threads. The shares are the proportion of those comments that raise each theme; a comment can raise more than one. Each quote is a comment or post from the LG set, chosen for fit within its theme; its score at harvest is shown, and the ranked candidates for every theme are in the download.

The unit of analysis is a comment or post in a thread whose title names an LG washer, or that itself names LG and a washer term (510 of 9,340 posts and comments harvested); AutoModerator and bot comments are excluded. Themes are keyword matches on the comment's text; a comment can match several. Quotes are trimmed for length and profanity; where a post rather than a comment is quoted, its title is shown before its body; nothing is reworded. Scores are Reddit upvotes at harvest time.
