Samsung Dryer Not Heating: The Part It Usually Is, What It Costs, and When to Stop
2 Samsung dryer repair files · 314 community comments · 109 Samsung dryers in our catalogue · Samsung's own troubleshooting read in full
Turn off Eco Dry, reset the breaker Samsung's way (off for 30 seconds, then on) and run the Vent Blockage Test before you buy anything: Samsung's own page lists seven causes and not one of them is a part. If the dryer still runs without heat, the fault is in the safety chain, a thermal fuse or thermal cutoff that opens into a blocked vent, or in the heater itself: the element on an electric, the igniter and valve coils on a gas. Test the chain first, because it is a two-minute continuity check and the cheap part; the guides split on the order and end in the same place. The Samsung-specific problem is that the four ranking pages we could read name components and never a part number; our two Samsung files carry eight no-heat part numbers, six on both, and they are on this page.

Samsung's own checks
breaker 30 s · Eco Dry · Vent Blockage Test · sensors · lint
Samsung's page: blocked vent, dirty moisture sensors, lint filter, Eco Dry, 240 V or the gas line, a tripped breaker, and a vent that does not meet spec. The Vent Blockage Test (Adjust Time Up + Dry Level until Ins) reads 0 or End when clear. None of it costs anything.
The checks, in order ↓ -
Electric: runs, no heat
Thermal fuse and cutoff, then the element
fuse · cutoff · element
Breaker off 30 seconds and on first, Samsung's own instruction: one tripped leg runs the drum on 120 V and starves the heater. Then the fuse and cutoff by continuity, then the element by the numbers, 10–30 Ω on iFixit's figure.
Thermal fuse on Amazon -
Gas: runs, no heat
Igniter, gas valve coils, flame sensor
igniter 50–400 Ω · coils 1,000–2,000 Ω · HC2 = ignition error
Lights off, watch the burner slot. No glow is the igniter once the fuse tests good; glow without flame is the valve coils or the flame sensor. No ranking guide names a Samsung gas part number, so buy by your model's diagram; 911 Appliance prices the jobs at $130–280.

01 / What this page adds
Seven numbers from the record
Three come from sources we read and link; four are computed from our own files, which are downloadable at the end of the page.
- 240 V
Samsung's own words for the electric no-heat that is not a part: "If the outlet is not supplying enough voltage, the panel and motor may work, but the heater may not." Its fix is a breaker reset, off for 30 seconds and on; its reset page says 1 to 5 minutes unplugged for the electronics. 1
Samsung Support, Clothes are not dry after using Samsung dryer (TSG10001001), and How to reset your Samsung dryer (ANS10004810). The not-dry page lists seven causes: blocked exhaust vent, dirty moisture sensors, clogged lint filter, Eco Dry, installation (240 V or the gas line), a tripped breaker, and a vent that does not meet the requirements. It names no part.
- Ins → 0
Samsung dryers carry their own airflow test: with the drum cool and empty, hold Adjust Time Up and Dry Level until Ins or In shows, run it, and read 0 or End for clear, CLg, Cg, C80 or C90 for a clogged vent, Ct for a temperature problem. 2
Samsung TSG10001001, the Vent Blockage Test, repeated word for word by cleverfixes. A HC, hE, HC4 or 1 HC code on Samsung's error-code page means the dryer got too hot; tS, tC, tE and their variants mean a temperature sensor; HC2 is a gas ignition error.

Both Samsung dryer files in our corpus (DV42H5000EW, DV42H5200EW) list the heating element and the thermal fuse as the no-heat candidates, and both carry the same numbers: element DC47-00019A, thermal fuse DC47-00016A, thermal cutoff DC96-00887A, high-limit DC47-00018A, thermistor DC32-00007A. 14
Our repair corpus, two Samsung electric-dryer model files built from vendor repair videos and parts catalogues; iFixit's Samsung replacement guide names the same element (DC47-00019A) and canister assembly (DC97-14486A). Samsung's electric-dryer failure profile in our data gives the heating element 32.5%, the thermal fuse 32.2% and the high-limit thermostat 17.3% of repair-video attention, figures identical to the any-brand electric profile, so not Samsung-specific. Attention share, not a failure rate.
- 38%
38% of 314 Reddit comments about Samsung dryers raise the vent, lint or airflow; 36% the heating element; 23% the thermal fuse or cutoff; 12% the breaker or 240 V supply. The most-upvoted thread titled about a Samsung dryer in the harvest is "I am so tired of fixing this Samsung dryer" (455 points, r/appliancerepair); a $625 quote to replace a heating element drew 105 points and 152 comments.
Counted over comments and posts in threads whose title names a Samsung dryer, or that name Samsung and a dryer term themselves, from 427 harvested threads. Keyword themes; a comment can match several. Method and limits in the field-reports section.
- Mostly cheap
The parts that stop a Samsung electric dryer heating run from a cheap thermostat assembly (DC47-00015A) to the complete heater canister (DC97-14486A, the costliest) on Amazon by part number; the thermistor DC32-00007A, the thermal fuse DC47-00016A and the thermal cutoff DC96-00887A are all low-cost, and the bare element DC47-00019A costs more. 911 Appliance's professional figures for the same jobs are $120–$200 for a fuse and $150–$280 for an element. 16
Amazon Creators API search on the eight no-heat part numbers in our two Samsung files, lowest listing whose title carries the number; genuine and compatible separated in the decode table. None of the four competing pages we could read (wikiHow, #2 and #7, could not be fetched) names a single Samsung part number; howtofixit gives a $50–150 range for an element and $120–200+ to have it fitted.

None of the sixteen washer-and-dryer repair professionals Prudent Reviews consulted in 2026 recommends Samsung, and two name it as a brand to avoid: one says LG and Samsung are two brands to stay away from, another that it is extremely hard to get parts for Samsung. Yale Appliance's dryer service-rate report does not carry Samsung at all, and Yale stopped selling Samsung washers by its 2026 report. 10
Prudent Reviews, The Most Reliable Washer and Dryer Brands (Andrew Palermo, updated 2026-04-29): Speed Queen 11 of 16, Whirlpool 5, LG, GE, Bosch, Maytag and Asko 2 each. Yale Appliance's 2022 full-size dryer list is Whirlpool 0.4%, LG 2.0%, GE 5.2%, Maytag 6.0%. There is no CPSC recall of a Samsung clothes dryer (both queries run 2026-09-13), and Samsung's warranty terms could not be reached from its site, so no term is stated.
- $114 vs $29
The median Samsung dryer in our catalogue costs $114.49 a year to run; Samsung's heat-pump DV25FG62*0 costs $29.00 a year to run. That $85-a-year gap is the only number that ever makes replacing a dryer over a cheap fuse arithmetic instead of impatience. 15

What our repair files name, and what owners describe
Left: which parts the 2 Samsung dryer repair files in our corpus list as no-heat candidates. Right: what the community's Samsung-dryer comments talk about when a dryer stops heating. The repair files rank the parts; the community count puts the vent first among the causes, because a no-heat thread on Reddit is where people go before they buy anything.
Corpus: files naming the part as a no-heat candidate (of 2)

03 / Which cause
The causes, in the order to check them, with the part
Free checks first, then the safety chain (thermal fuse, thermal cutoff, high-limit), then the heater itself. Electric and gas dryers share everything up to the heater: an electric dryer heats with a coil, a gas dryer with an igniter, a valve and a flame sensor. Every part below is matched by part number; where no Samsung number is sourced, the row says so.
| Cause | What you notice | The check | Part |
|---|---|---|---|
| Power, settings, vent (both fuels) | Drum turns; clothes come out cold or take two cycles; or Eco Dry is on. | Samsung's list: breaker off for 30 seconds and on; Eco Dry off (it reduces heat on purpose); lint filter; moisture sensors wiped with a drop of dish soap; the Vent Blockage Test (Adjust Time Up + Dry Level until Ins, read 0 or End for clear). Electric: a Samsung short of 240 V will run its panel and motor and not its heater, Samsung's own words. Gas: the supply valve open. | $0 |
| Thermal fuse and thermal cutoff | Runs, no heat at all, after a hot or lint-choked cycle. | Unplug. 911 Appliance: the thermal fuse is on the blower housing near the heating element. The thermal cutoff and high-limit mount on the heater canister; no guide we read states that, so confirm on your model's parts diagram. Continuity across each, near 0 Ω good (a-zapplianceparts, cleverfixes), OL blown. Never bypass either: running a dryer with the thermal fuse bridged is how dryers catch fire. Clean the vent before fitting the new one or it blows again. | DC47-00016A · DC96-00887A |
| High-limit thermostat | Heats, then quits mid-cycle, or no heat with good fuses. | On the heater box; same continuity test at room temperature. iFixit's Samsung page puts the cutoff and the high-limit first, ahead of the element. | DC47-00018A |
| Heating element (electric) | Fuses and thermostats pass, still no heat; sometimes a burnt smell or a visibly broken coil. | iFixit: 10 to 30 Ω across the contacts. howtofixit: about 10 Ω. a-zapplianceparts and 911 Appliance: 10 to 50 Ω. OL on any source is the failure, and so is continuity to the canister. 911 Appliance: front lower access panel off, two wires off the terminals, inspect the coil for breaks and scorch marks. | DC47-00019A element · DC97-14486A complete canister |
| Thermistor | Heat is wrong rather than absent, or a tS, tC or tE code. | 911 Appliance: about 10,000 Ω at 77°F. iFixit: replace it if the reading is more than 5% off for the temperature. One of the cheapest parts on the page; test it before the board. | DC32-00007A |
| Gas: igniter | Gas dryer, drum turns, igniter never glows (look through the burner inspection slot with the lights off), or an HC2 code. | a-zapplianceparts: a good igniter reads 50 to 400 Ω. No glow with continuity on the fuse chain means the igniter or its circuit. No ranking guide names a Samsung igniter part number and our two files are electric models, so none is listed here; 911 Appliance's figure is $30–80 for the part, $140–280 fitted. | no sourced part number |
| Gas: valve coils and flame sensor | Igniter glows, no flame; or glows, lights, and goes out. | a-zapplianceparts: the coils should read roughly 1,000 to 2,000 Ω. Glow without flame is the coils or the flame sensor; the coils are DIY, the valve body is the gas fitter's. 911 Appliance: $20–60 for solenoids, $130–250 fitted. | no sourced part number |
| Control board | Every part above tests good and 240 V reaches the machine. | 911 Appliance: unplug and wait at least 10 minutes for the board to discharge before service. The board's heater relay is a technician's diagnosis; 911 Appliance prices the board at $100–250 and the job at $250–500. | technician |
- Maker Turn the circuit breaker off, wait 30 seconds, and then turn it back on. 1
- Maker When the drum is cool and empty, press Adjust Time Up + Dry Level until 'Ins' or 'In' appears on the display. 1
- Competing guide You can test the coils with a multimeter—they should show roughly 1,000 to 2,000 ohms of resistance. 8
Samsung dryer runs but no heat: why the drum still turns
A Samsung dryer's motor runs on 120 V; only the heater uses the second leg of the 240 V supply, which is why Samsung's own page says the panel and motor may work while the heater does not. Downstream of the supply the heat runs through a chain of safeties in series, thermal fuse on the blower housing, thermal cutoff and high-limit on the heater box, and any one of them open cuts the heater and nothing else. The heater itself fails last: an element coil breaks (reads OL) or touches the canister (reads to ground); a gas igniter cracks and never glows; a valve coil opens and the burner never lights. Every guide on this page follows that chain because the dryer's own design does.
Electric dryers require 240V outlets. If the outlet is not supplying enough voltage, the panel and motor may work, but the heater may not. 1
04 / By symptom
What you see, and what it usually is
Match the symptom, not the part. Each row names the parts in the order the guides and the community check them.
- Not a fault Clothes barely warm, dryer otherwise fine, Eco Dry showing — Samsung: "Eco Dry intentionally reduces heat output to save energy." Turn it off before you buy anything. 1
- Not a fault Takes forever; Vent Blockage Test reads CLg, Cg, C80 or C90 — Airflow. The vent, the wall cap, the hose behind the machine. Samsung's own first cause, and cleverfixes' whole article. The heater is fine. 1
- DIY first, then a technician Electric, drum turns, stone cold, nothing else wrong — The breaker first, Samsung's way: off for 30 seconds, then on. One leg of a two-pole 240 V breaker can trip and leave the motor running on 120 V. If it trips again, or the outlet reads 120 V on one side, that is an electrician, not a part. 1
- DIY part Electric, drum turns, stone cold, breaker fine — The safety chain, then the heater: thermal fuse DC47-00016A and cutoff DC96-00887A by continuity, then the element DC47-00019A at 10–30 Ω on iFixit's figure. Both our Samsung files list the element and the fuse. 14
- DIY part Heats, then stops heating partway; HC, hE or HC4 on the display — The dryer got too hot, in Samsung's words: high-limit DC47-00018A tripping, or a thermistor DC32-00007A reading wrong. Clean the vent as well, because an overheating dryer is usually a choked dryer. 2
- DIY first, then a technician Gas, igniter never glows, or HC2 — The igniter (50–400 Ω on a-zapplianceparts' figure) once the fuse chain tests good. No sourced Samsung igniter number, so buy by your model's diagram; 911 Appliance's price for the job is $140–280. 8
- DIY first, then a technician Gas, igniter glows but no flame, or flame dies — Valve coils (1,000–2,000 Ω per a-zapplianceparts) or the flame sensor. The coils are a DIY swap; if the valve body is suspect, or you smell gas, close the supply and call a technician. 8
By what the display shows
- HC, hE, HC4, 1 HC
- Samsung: "This means that the dryer is getting too hot." A blocked vent, a high-limit thermostat, or a thermistor, in that order of cheapness. 2
- tS, t5, tC, tO, tE, tE3, tC5, tCS and the 1 tC variants
- Samsung: "an issue with the temperature or with the sensors that measure it." The thermistor, about 10,000 Ω at 77°F per 911 Appliance, before the board. 2
- HC2
- Gas ignition error on Samsung's code page: the igniter, the coils or the flame sensor on a gas model. 2
- Ins, then 0 or End; or CLg, Cg, C80, C90; or Ct
- The Vent Blockage Test results: 0 or End is clear; the C codes are a clogged vent; Ct is a temperature problem (below 32°F or above 104°F inside). 1
- Nothing at all, drum turns
- A blown fuse or a dead element gives no code. Unplug and go to the safety chain. 14
05 / The routine
Diagnose in this order
Free checks, then the safety chain with a multimeter, then the heater, then stop. Unplug before opening any panel; on a gas dryer close the gas valve too. Reconnecting a bypassed thermal fuse is how dryers catch fire, so never run one without it.
- Minute 0 Settings and the breaker. Eco Dry off. Cycle set to a heated dry. Breaker off for 30 seconds and on, Samsung's own instruction; on an electric Samsung a half-tripped two-pole breaker runs the drum and not the heater.
- Minute 5 Samsung's Vent Blockage Test. Cool, empty drum, door closed; hold Adjust Time Up and Dry Level until Ins shows. 0 or End is clear; CLg, Cg, C80 or C90 is a clogged vent, and the heater is not your problem yet. Wipe the moisture sensor bars with a drop of dish soap while you are there.
- Minute 20 Unplug. Meter on the outlet or terminal block (electric). About 120 V from each hot to neutral and about 240 V across the two. 120 V on one side is the supply, not the dryer; it is the fifth and sixth of Samsung's seven causes (installation and breaker).
- Hour 1 The safety chain. Front lower panel off (911 Appliance's route). Thermal fuse on the blower housing, thermal cutoff and high-limit on the heater box: continuity across each, near 0 Ω good, OL blown. Replace what reads open and clean the vent, because a fuse that blew once will blow again into a blocked duct.
- Hour 2 The heater itself. Electric: element across the two terminals, 10–30 Ω on iFixit's figure (10–50 on 911 Appliance's), OL is dead, continuity to the canister is a short; the whole canister DC97-14486A swaps as one part if the coil is fragile. Gas: watch the igniter through the burner slot; no glow is the igniter (50–400 Ω), glow without flame is the coils (1,000–2,000 Ω) or the flame sensor.
- Stop Board, motor circuit, or a gas valve body. Unplug and wait ten minutes for the board to discharge (911 Appliance) before anyone touches it. If 240 V reaches the machine and everything downstream tests good, the heater relay on the board is the last suspect and a technician's call ($250–500 on 911 Appliance's figure); so is any gas valve work beyond the coils.
06 / What to expect
What it costs: fix or replace
The repair steps against the two numbers that decide it: what the dryer you have costs to run (our catalogue's median Samsung is $114.49 a year) and what a replacement costs to run (Samsung's heat-pump DV25FG62*0, at $29.00 a year).
- $0 Eco Dry off, breaker reset, vent test passed, sensors wiped. Samsung's own page starts and ends here. If the Vent Blockage Test reads 0 and the dryer heats, it was never broken. 1
- Low cost Thermistor, high-limit, thermal fuse, thermal cutoff. Every sensor and safety in the chain is a low-cost compatible part. 911 Appliance's professional figures for the same jobs: fuse $120–$200, high-limit $120–$220, thermistor $120–$220. Against any replacement dryer none of these is a decision. 9
- Mid cost Heater element or the whole canister (electric). DC47-00019A element; DC97-14486A complete canister. howtofixit's range is $50–150 for the part and $120–200+ to have it fitted; 911 Appliance says $40–$90 and $150–$280. A compatible element costs less than either part range. 6
- $130–$280 Gas: coils or igniter, professional. 911 Appliance: gas valve solenoids $20–$60 part, $130–$250 fitted; igniter $30–$80 part, $140–$280 fitted; house call $49.95, waived with an approved repair. No sourced Samsung part number for either, so no Amazon price is given here. 9
- $250–$500 Control board, professional. 911 Appliance: $100–$250 for the board, $250–$500 for the job. This is the row where a fifteen-year-old vented dryer stops being worth it, because the next row is where the running-cost saving lives. 9
- Replace Replace with a heat pump and keep the difference. Samsung's DV25FG62*0 heat-pump dryer runs $29.00 a year, $85 less than the median Samsung's $114.49. That is a long payback on electricity alone, so it is a reason to choose a heat pump when the dryer is dead, not a reason to kill it. 15

Each part is the one the corpus files, the guides and the community name for that fault, matched to Amazon listings by part number. The pick is the lowest-priced listing that names the part number.
-
Runs, no heat at all
Thermal fuse / thermostat assembly DC47-00016A
DC47-00016A · continuity
The part a-zapplianceparts and iFixit test first, and the cheapest link in the safety chain. It sits on the blower housing near the element (911 Appliance) and opens when the air stops moving; a good one reads near 0 Ω, a blown one reads OL. On both our Samsung files (DV42H5000EW, DV42H5200EW).
Genuine listing: none found under the rule in the decode note. A blown fuse is a symptom of a blocked vent; clean the duct before you fit it or it blows again. Never run the dryer with the fuse bridged.
-
Chain tests good, still cold (electric)
Heating element DC47-00019A
DC47-00019A · front lower panel
The bare coil for the canister. iFixit's replacement guide names this number and 911 Appliance's route is the front lower access panel, two wires off, inspect for breaks and scorch marks. 10–30 Ω on iFixit's figure; OL is dead. On both our Samsung files (DV42H5000EW, DV42H5200EW).
If the old coil is fragile or the canister insulators are cracked, the complete canister DC97-14486A below swaps as one part.
-
Runs, no heat, fuse tests good
Thermal cutoff DC96-00887A
DC96-00887A · continuity
The second safety, on the heater box. Same continuity test as the fuse. iFixit's Samsung page puts the cutoff and high-limit first, ahead of the element. On both our Samsung files (DV42H5000EW, DV42H5200EW).
DC96-00887C is the same cutoff with its bracket, for DV42H5000EW; the decode table has both.
-
Heats, then quits; HC or hE code
High-limit thermostat DC47-00018A
DC47-00018A · continuity
The thermostat that cuts the heater when the box overheats and resets when it cools; a dryer that heats and then stops, or shows HC, is usually this or the vent. On both our Samsung files (DV42H5000EW, DV42H5200EW).
Genuine listing: none found under the rule in the decode note. If it trips repeatedly, the cause is airflow, not the thermostat.
-
Wrong heat, or a tE/tC code
Thermistor DC32-00007A
DC32-00007A · multimeter
The temperature sensor the board reads. 911 Appliance: about 10,000 Ω at 77°F; iFixit: replace if more than 5% off for the temperature. The cheapest of the six parts above and the one to rule out before a board. On both our Samsung files (DV42H5000EW, DV42H5200EW).
A reading that does not fall as the sensor warms is the failure.
-
Element dead and the canister tired
Heater canister assembly DC97-14486A
DC97-14486A · front lower panel
The complete heater box with the element, thermostats and insulators fitted, the part iFixit's guide names alongside the bare element. It costs more than the bare coil and takes half the fiddling. On both our Samsung files (DV42H5000EW, DV42H5200EW).
Confirm the number against your model tag: the DV42H files carry this one, other Samsung platforms differ.
Prices change, so check the live price on Amazon. Part numbers are from our Samsung dryer repair files (DV42H5000EW, DV42H5200EW) and from the guides we read; confirm against your model's parts diagram. Affiliate links; we earn a commission at no cost to you.
08 / The Samsung question
What is different about a Samsung dryer
Three things on the record: the codes and the test are Samsung's own, none of the four ranking pages we could read names a part, and the repair trade does not recommend the brand.

What thirteen sources say, and where they split
3 manufacturer pages · 1 repair wiki · 4 competing guides · 2 reliability reports · 1 regulator · 1 repair corpus · 1 community harvest — every row links to the page it came from.
Samsung's three support pages, iFixit's Samsung page and its replacement guide, the four competing pages that rank for the query on Bing that we could fetch (#1, #4, #5 and #6 when we checked on 2026-09-13; wikiHow at #2 and #7 could not be fetched), two reliability sources, the CPSC record, our own repair corpus and the community harvest. Eight give an order of checks; five do not.

Where they agree
- Power and airflow before parts. Samsung, cleverfixes, iFixit and 911 Appliance all put the breaker, the settings and the vent ahead of any component, and Samsung's Vent Blockage Test settles the airflow question in two minutes.
- The safety chain before the heater. Every guide that reaches the parts stage tests the thermal fuse, the cutoff and the high-limit by continuity before it touches the element, and all of them are cheap parts.
- OL is the failure. The four sources that put a number on the element disagree on the number (10, 10–30, 10–50 Ω) and agree that an open reading, or continuity to the canister, condemns it.
- No source gives a Samsung dryer failure rate. Yale's dryer series does not carry the brand, Consumer Reports' brand scores are paywalled, Prudent Reviews' professionals count recommendations, not repairs, and our corpus counts repair-video attention. The page uses each for what it is.
Where they split
- Fuse first, or element first? — a-zapplianceparts and iFixit: the fuse and the cutoff. howtofixit and 911 Appliance: the element. Samsung and cleverfixes: neither, the vent and the settings. The community, by count: the vent, then the element, then the fuse. Test order is the answer, not part order: the fuse and cutoff are a two-minute continuity check on the way to the element, and both our Samsung files list both. Buy the element only after the element reads open.
- What should the element read? — iFixit: 10 to 30 Ω. howtofixit: about 10 Ω. a-zapplianceparts and 911 Appliance: 10 to 50 Ω. cleverfixes flags under 10 or over 30. The ranges overlap and none cites a Samsung tech sheet; a reading of OL, or continuity from a terminal to the canister, is the failure on every source. If the coil reads inside any of those ranges and the fuses are good, look at the thermostats and the board before buying an element.
- How bad is Samsung? — Prudent Reviews' sixteen professionals: none recommends Samsung, one says LG and Samsung are brands to stay away from, one says it is extremely hard to get parts for Samsung. Yale Appliance: no dryer figure, a 4.9% washer service rate in 2022, and the brand dropped from its washer line by 2026. Consumer Reports: Samsung is in its survey, the score is paywalled. The trade's complaint is parts and service, not the no-heat fault: the parts on this page are the same low-cost items as on any dryer, and the numbers are on both our Samsung files. What the trade view changes is the stop rule, because a board or a motor on a Samsung is the repair a technician may not want.
- How long to wait after unplugging? — Samsung's breaker instruction: 30 seconds. Samsung's reset page: 1 to 5 minutes. 911 Appliance: at least 10 minutes for the board to discharge. Three answers for three purposes: a breaker reset, an electronics reset, and safety before touching the board. Use the longest one before you open the machine.

You can check the resistance with a multimeter. You should get a reading between 10 and 30 ohms across the contacts.
iFixit, Samsung Dryer Not Heating ↗ - Ben Schlichter iFixit contributor; author of the Samsung front-load dryer heating element replacement guide
Use this guide to access and replace the heating element (DC47-00019A) inside the heater canister, or to replace the complete heater canister assembly (DC97-14486A), in a Samsung front load dryer that won't heat.
iFixit ↗ - Eugene Smith Author, howtofixit.net
When you use a multimeter to check the heating element's resistance, the reading should be approximately 10 Ohms.
howtofixit.net, Samsung Dryer Not Heating · 2026-02-14 ↗ - Daryll Writer, cleverfixes.com (credential as stated by the site)
A functioning thermostat should have a reading between 0.1-0.5 ohms. A working thermal fuse should register 0 or close to 0. If the heating element's reading is lower than 10 or over 30, it may need replacing.
cleverfixes.com · 2024-01-02 ↗ - Andrew Palermo Founder, Prudent Reviews; consulted sixteen washer-and-dryer repair professionals
The service expert at Nawara Brothers Home Store, a home appliance sales and service company in Grand Rapids, Michigan, said, “For any modern washer and dryer I would recommend LG or GE products. They seem to have the least amount of service issues. I would not recommend Samsung or Whirlpool. They seem to have a lot more issues, and it is extremely hard to get parts for Samsung.”

Electric dryers require 240V outlets. If the outlet is not supplying enough voltage, the panel and motor may work, but the heater may not.

12 / Questions
Frequently asked
- Why does my Samsung dryer run but not heat?
- Because the motor runs on 120 V from one leg of the supply and only the heater needs both legs. Samsung's own words: "the panel and motor may work, but the heater may not" when the outlet is short of 240 V, so one tripped leg of the breaker leaves it tumbling cold; after that it is the safety chain (thermal fuse DC47-00016A, cutoff DC96-00887A) and then the element (DC47-00019A). On a gas Samsung it is the igniter or the valve coils. Check Eco Dry first: it reduces heat on purpose. 114
- How do I run the Samsung dryer Vent Blockage Test?
- With the drum cool and empty and the door closed, press and hold Adjust Time Up and Dry Level until Ins or In shows on the display, then let it run. 0 or End means the vent is clear; CLg, Cg, C80 or C90 means it is clogged; Ct means a temperature problem. Samsung's page and cleverfixes describe it the same way. 17
- How do I reset a Samsung dryer that is not heating?
- Samsung gives two waits: turn the breaker off for 30 seconds and back on (its not-dry page), or unplug for 1 to 5 minutes to clear the electronics (its reset page). 911 Appliance says at least 10 minutes before service so the control board discharges. A reset clears a code; it does not replace a blown fuse. 39
- How do I test the thermal fuse on a Samsung dryer?
- Unplug it. 911 Appliance: the thermal fuse is on the blower housing near the heating element; the thermal cutoff and high-limit mount on the heater canister (no guide we read states that, so confirm on your parts diagram). Pull both wires and read continuity across the terminals: near 0 Ω is good (a-zapplianceparts, cleverfixes), OL is blown. Replace what reads open (DC47-00016A, DC96-00887A) and clean the vent, or the new one blows the same way. Never bridge a fuse to test the heater. 98
- What should a Samsung dryer heating element read on a multimeter?
- iFixit: 10 to 30 Ω across the contacts. howtofixit: about 10 Ω. a-zapplianceparts and 911 Appliance: 10 to 50 Ω. The ranges overlap and none cites a tech sheet; an open reading (OL), a visibly broken coil, or continuity from a terminal to the metal canister is the failure on every source. 49
- What do HC, hE, tE or HC2 mean on a Samsung dryer?
- From Samsung's error-code page: HC, hE, HC4 and 1 HC mean the dryer is getting too hot (vent, high-limit thermostat, thermistor); tS, t5, tC, tO, tE, tE3, tC5, tCS and the 1 tC variants mean a problem with the temperature or the sensors that measure it (thermistor first, about 10,000 Ω at 77°F per 911 Appliance); HC2 is a gas ignition error. 29
- How much does it cost to fix a Samsung dryer that is not heating?
- The parts run from a cheap thermostat assembly (DC47-00015A) to the complete heater canister (the costliest part) on Amazon by part number; the thermal fuse and the high-limit are cheap, and the element alone costs more. Professional figures from 911 Appliance: thermal fuse $120–$200, element $150–$280, thermistor $120–$220, gas coils $130–$250, igniter $140–$280, control board $250–$500; howtofixit says $120–200+ to have an element fitted. 169
- Is it worth repairing a Samsung dryer?
- For anything in the safety chain or the element, yes at any age: the parts are low-cost. What changes the answer is the running cost: the median Samsung dryer costs $114.49 a year to run and Samsung's heat-pump DV25FG62*0 about $29.00, so a dead board ($250–$500 on 911 Appliance's figure) on an old vented dryer is where replacement starts to pay. 159
- Are Samsung dryers reliable?
- The one series that measures dryers, Yale Appliance's 2022 report, does not carry Samsung (Whirlpool 0.4%, LG 2.0%, GE 5.2%, Maytag 6.0%), and Yale had stopped selling Samsung washers by its 2026 report. None of the sixteen repair professionals Prudent Reviews consulted in 2026 recommends Samsung; one says LG and Samsung are brands to stay away from, another that it is extremely hard to get parts for Samsung. Consumer Reports surveys the brand but its score is paywalled. The no-heat parts themselves are ordinary and cheap; the trade's complaint is parts and service. 101112
- Was there a recall on Samsung dryers?
- No. A CPSC search on "samsung dryer" returns nothing, and the regulator's full dryer list (mostly hair dryers) holds no Samsung clothes dryer. Samsung's warranty terms could not be reached from its site in this pass, so none is stated here. 13
- Which Samsung part numbers fit my dryer?
- From our two model files (DV42H5000EW, DV42H5200EW), both electric: heating element DC47-00019A or the complete canister DC97-14486A, thermal fuse DC47-00016A, thermal cutoff DC96-00887A (DC96-00887C with bracket), high-limit DC47-00018A, thermostat assembly DC47-00015A, thermistor DC32-00007A. No ranking guide names a Samsung igniter or valve number; check the parts diagram for your model tag before ordering. 145

What 314 Samsung dryer comments say
314 comments about a Samsung dryer · from 427 threads · r/appliancerepair, r/Appliances, r/HomeImprovement · Jan 2015 – Sep 2026
We harvested the top-voted threads for nine dryer-no-heat queries on r/appliancerepair, r/Appliances and r/HomeImprovement and kept every comment or post about a Samsung dryer (threads about other appliances, washer-dryer combos and heat-pump units excluded): 314 in all from 427 threads. The shares are the proportion of those comments that raise each theme; a comment can raise more than one. Each quote is a first-person comment from the Samsung set, chosen for fit within its theme; its score at harvest is shown, and the ranked candidates for every theme are in the download.
Share of comments about a Samsung dryer that raise each theme
The theme Samsung owners raise most: a plugged roof vent that forced the pipe apart and sprayed lint between the floors.
From the thread "I was just quoted $625 to repair the heating element on my Samsung dryer" (105 points): the reply that names the kit and the screwdriver.
The replace decision as one owner reached it: a heater, then a thermostat, then a different brand.
The fuse and the canister assembly DC97-14486A together, and the question every guide asks: why did it blow.
Four elements in ten years, and the owner's own rule about when to stop.
The page's first check in first person: a new element, two more teardowns, and then the breaker.
How the thermostats are wired, from a commenter reading a diagram: in series, on one leg of the element.
The symptom as owners phrase it: the cooling light, a drum that runs, no heat.
The gas path as one commenter orders it: igniter resistance, then the flame sensor and coils, and rarely the valve.
Where the money goes: 250 V at the heater relay that never drops, and a board that cannot be bought as a relay.
The sensor found after the lint: the thermistor.
Warranty service as one owner experienced it: a board under warranty, then the warranty ran out.
The parts the community names most
Method. 427 threads gathered 2026-09-13 from r/appliancerepair (239), r/Appliances (159), r/HomeImprovement (29), through Reddit's public search, sorted by top and by relevance for nine dryer-no-heat queries (four of them brand-specific); Reddit blocked a share of thread fetches, so this is a sample of top-voted discussion and not a complete count. The unit of analysis is a comment or post in a thread whose title names a Samsung dryer, or that itself names Samsung and a dryer term (314 of 4,702 posts and comments harvested); AutoModerator and bot comments are excluded. Themes are keyword matches on the comment's text; a comment can match several. Quotes are trimmed for length and profanity; where a post rather than a comment is quoted, its title is shown before its body; nothing is reworded. Scores are Reddit upvotes at harvest time.
