GE Dryer Not Heating: The Part It Usually Is, What It Costs, and When to Stop
2 GE dryer repair files · 113 community comments · 57 GE dryers in our catalogue · GE's own troubleshooting read in full
Reset the breaker GE's way and check the cycle before you buy anything: GE's own no-heat page lists seven causes, all of them the outlet, the breaker, the setting or the airflow, and not one of them a part. If the dryer still runs without heat, every guide we read tests the thermal fuse on the heater pan next, because it opens into a blocked vent; we test the thermostats beside it in the same pass (the high-limit is a cheap part) and only then the element on an electric or the igniter and valve coils on a gas. The GE-specific cost is that element: it is sold as a complete assembly with no cheap coil, which is the reason to test everything upstream, including the purple heater wire, first.

GE's own checks
breaker · 208/240 V outlet · dry cycle, not fluff · front clear · rear connections
GE's page: a dedicated 208/240 V outlet, not 120 V; breaker off and on (one tripped half runs the motor and not the heater); the right amperage; a dry cycle, not fluff or cool-down; nothing blocking the front; the cord connections at the back. None of it costs anything.
The checks, in order ↓ -
Electric: runs, no heat
The thermostat and fuse cluster, then the element
high-limit thermostat · inlet thermostat · element
Breaker off and on first, GE's own instruction: one tripped half runs the drum on 120 V and starves the heater. Then the thermostat-and-fuse cluster on the heater pan by continuity (fuse near 0.00 Ω on iFixit's GE guide), then the purple wire, then the element at about 43 Ω.
High-limit thermostat on Amazon -
Gas: runs, no heat
Igniter, gas valve coils, flame sensor
igniter 80–400 Ω · coils 500–1,500 Ω · supply valve open
Lights off, watch the burner slot. No glow is the igniter once the fuse tests good; glow without flame is the valve coils or the flame sensor, on iFixit's glow rules. No source names a GE gas part number, and GE's gas page (four checks: cycle, front airflow, a dedicated 120 V outlet, gas line on) names no part either, so buy by your model's diagram.

01 / What this page adds
Seven numbers from the record
Three come from sources we read and link; four are computed from our own files, which are downloadable at the end of the page.
- 208/240 V
GE's own no-heat pages never reach a part. The electric page's seven causes are the outlet (a dedicated 208/240 V circuit), a dryer running on 120 V only, a tripped half of the two-pole breaker, the wrong amperage, the wrong cycle, blocked airflow at the front, and a burnt or loose connection at the back; the gas page's four are the cycle, the front airflow, a dedicated 120 V outlet and the gas line turned on. The long-dry page adds that on 120 V the drying time is up to three times longer. 1
GE Appliances Product Help, Electric Dryer - Runs But Does Not Heat (contentId 16921), Gas Dryer - Runs But Does Not Heat (16922, linked from it) and Why is my dryer taking so long? (18058). Neither no-heat page names a part, a code or a price, and GE's FAQ hub lists no error-code page.
- 43 Ω
iFixit's GE guide expects about 43 Ω across a healthy heating element and about 21 Ω across each half; its generic electric guide says about 10 Ω and ApplianceJournal says 19.2 Ω ± 1. A three-way split that no source reconciles, so the test that matters is the one they share: OL on the element, or continuity to the metal, is dead. 5
iFixit, How to Troubleshoot a GE Dryer Not Heating (Ben Schlichter); iFixit, Electric Dryer Not Heating (Bill Gilbert); ApplianceJournal (Kris Escueta). The GE guide also gives the fuse at 0.00 Ω, the sensor-style thermostat in the cluster at about 9,000 Ω, and a purple heater wire at the lower right of the heater pan to inspect for charring before anything is replaced.
- 2 of 2
Both GE dryer files in our corpus (GTD42EASJ1WW, GTD42EASJ2WW) list the heating element as the no-heat candidate, one number for both: WE11X21156. The thermostat cluster is on one file, GTD42EASJ2WW, under four numbers the file labels high-limit thermostat (WE04X25194 and WE04X26139, and WE04X25201 and WE04X26216, which Amazon's listings call the inlet and blower thermostats); the J1 file carries none. Neither file carries a separate thermal fuse, which is why iFixit calls GE's the thermostat-and-fuse cluster. 14
Our repair corpus, two GE electric-dryer model files built from vendor repair videos and parts catalogues. GE's electric-dryer failure profile in our data gives the heating element 32.5%, the thermal fuse 32.2% and the high-limit thermostat 17.3% of repair-video attention, figures identical to the any-brand electric profile, so not GE-specific. Attention share, not a failure rate.
- 26%
26% of 113 Reddit comments about GE dryers raise the vent, lint or airflow; 23% a gas part; 19% the heating element; 19% the thermal fuse or cutoff; 13% the breaker or 240 V supply. A recurring GE-specific thread is the burnt heater-wire connection that iFixit's guide tells you to inspect.
Counted over comments and posts in threads whose title names a GE dryer, or that name GE and a dryer term themselves, from 427 harvested threads. Keyword themes; a comment can match several. Method and limits in the field-reports section.
- 1 costly part
The parts that stop a GE electric dryer heating run from a cheap high-limit thermostat (WE04X26139) to a costly heating element (WE11X21156) on Amazon by part number, and the element is the whole story: GE's element for this platform is a complete assembly with no cheap compatible listing, where the Whirlpool and Samsung coils on our sibling pages are far cheaper. 16
Amazon Creators API search on the five part numbers in our two GE files, lowest listing whose title carries the number; genuine and compatible separated in the decode table. None of the pages we could fetch that rank for the query names a GE part number or a price.
- 5.2%
Yale Appliance's 2022 dryer report put GE Appliances at a 5.2% first-year service rate, third of the four full-size brands it carried (Whirlpool 0.4%, LG 2.0%, Maytag 6.0%), against a 3.5% average for dryers. Prudent Reviews' 2026 survey of sixteen repair professionals has GE recommended by two of them. 10
Yale Appliance, Most Reliable Full-Size Clothes Dryer Brands for 2022 (service calls December 2020 to October 2021, products serviced divided by products sold); Prudent Reviews, The Most Reliable Washer and Dryer Brands (Andrew Palermo, updated 2026-04-29). No newer Yale dryer report was found. Consumer Reports' 2026 survey of 96,315 dryers puts GE and Whirlpool at about 9% of member purchases each and says owner satisfaction improved for GE and GE Profile gas dryers, without a number.
- $114/yr
The median GE dryer in our catalogue costs $114.49 a year to run; the cheapest-to-run published GE is the GFD14ES*N at $46.32, and the GFT14ES*M runs $59.69. That gap is the only number that ever makes replacing a dryer over a cheap thermostat arithmetic instead of impatience. 15

02 / Two counts
What our repair files name, and what owners describe
Left: which parts the 2 GE dryer repair files in our corpus list as no-heat candidates. Right: what the community's GE-dryer comments talk about when a dryer stops heating. The repair files rank the parts; the community count puts the vent first among the causes, because a no-heat thread on Reddit is where people go before they buy anything.
Corpus: files naming the part as a no-heat candidate (of 2)

03 / Which cause
The causes, in the order to check them, with the part
Free checks first, then the safety chain (thermal fuse, thermal cutoff, high-limit), then the heater itself. Electric and gas dryers share everything up to the heater: an electric dryer heats with a coil, a gas dryer with an igniter, a valve and a flame sensor. Every part below is matched by part number; where no GE number is sourced, the row says so.
| Cause | What you notice | The check | Part |
|---|---|---|---|
| Power, settings, vent (both fuels) | Drum turns; clothes come out cold or take two cycles; or the cycle is set to fluff or cool-down. | GE's list: a dedicated 208/240 V outlet; breaker off and on (one tripped half runs the motor and not the heater); the right cycle, fabric and temperature, not fluff or cool-down; nothing blocking the front of the dryer; the terminal connections at the back for burnt or loose wires. GE's venting page: rigid or flexible metal duct only, never plastic; a 4-inch wall cap; clean the vent regularly. Gas: the supply valve open. | $0 |
| Thermostat and fuse cluster | Runs, no heat at all, after a hot or lint-choked cycle. | iFixit's GE guide: on the heater pan; the large terminal on the fuse should read near 0.00 Ω, the small terminals on the sensor-style thermostat about 9,000 Ω. OL on the fuse is blown. Never bypass it; clean the vent before fitting the new one or it blows again. | WE04X26139 · WE04X25194 |
| Inlet and blower thermostats | Heats, then quits mid-cycle, or no heat with a good fuse. | Same continuity test at room temperature; the inlet thermostat sits at the heater inlet, the blower thermostat on the blower housing. Our GTD42EASJ2WW file carries four thermostat numbers, so match the diagram. | WE04X25201 · WE04X26216 |
| Heating element (electric) | Cluster tests good, still no heat; sometimes a burnt smell, a charred purple wire at the heater pan, or a visibly broken coil. | iFixit's GE guide: about 43 Ω across the element, about 21 Ω per half, and no continuity to the pan; its generic guide says about 10 Ω, ApplianceJournal 19.2 Ω ± 1. Use the tech sheet; OL is dead on all three. Inspect the purple wire on the lower right of the heater pan for charring first. | WE11X21156 (complete assembly; no cheap compatible listing) |
| Gas: igniter | Gas dryer, drum turns, igniter never glows (look through the burner inspection slot with the lights off). | iFixit's generic gas guide: a good igniter reads 80–400 Ω (one common model about 72 Ω). No glow with continuity on the fuse chain means the igniter or its circuit. No source we read names a GE igniter part number and our two files are electric models, so none is listed here. | no sourced part number |
| Gas: valve coils and flame sensor | Igniter glows, no flame; or glows, lights, and goes out. | iFixit's generic gas guide: glowing for five minutes with no flame is the flame sensor; glowing up to two minutes then quitting is the coils (500–1,500 Ω: main about 1,500, assist about 650, hold about 1,600). Fred's Appliance lists the solenoid, the igniter and the flame sensor as the three gas causes. The coils are DIY; the valve body is the gas fitter's. | no sourced part number |
| Timer or control board | Every part above tests good and 240 V reaches the terminal block. | iFixit's GE guide: check the timer contacts for continuity while rotating the knob to a heat setting. Fred's Appliance: the timer and the main board are rare and last. A technician's diagnosis; no part is listed here. | technician |
- Maker The Dryer should be on a separate, dedicated 208V/240V electrical outlet. 1
- Maker If an electric dryer is on a 120-volt circuit instead of a 240-volt circuit, the drying time will be as much as three times longer 3
- Repair guide Use a multimeter set to AC voltage to confirm 120 volts on each leg to neutral and about 208 to 240 volts across both hot legs. 5
GE dryer runs but no heat: why the drum still turns
A GE dryer's motor runs on 120 V; only the heater uses the second leg of the 208/240 V supply, which is why GE's own page says a dryer on 120 V runs and does not heat. Downstream of the supply the heat runs through the thermostat-and-fuse cluster on the heater pan, fuse, high-limit, inlet and blower thermostats in series, and any one of them open cuts the heater and nothing else. The heater itself fails last: an element coil breaks (reads OL) or touches the pan (reads to ground), or the purple wire feeding it chars at the terminal; a gas igniter cracks and never glows; a valve coil opens and the burner never lights. Every guide on this page follows that chain because the dryer's own design does.
Check the purple wire on the lower right corner of the heater pan for burning or charring. 5
04 / By symptom
What you see, and what it usually is
Match the symptom, not the part. Each row names the parts in the order the guides and the community check them.
- Not a fault Clothes barely warm, cycle set to fluff, cool-down or Eco Dry — GE: "The cycle should be set to a dry cycle and not fluff or cool down." Eco Dry reduces the energy of a sensor cycle by design. Change the setting before you buy anything. 1
- Not a fault Takes up to three times as long, otherwise fine — GE's long-dry page: an electric dryer wired to a 120 V circuit instead of 240 V takes up to three times longer. Also the vent: metal duct only, 4-inch cap, and the front of the dryer clear. 3
- DIY first, then a technician Electric, drum turns, stone cold, nothing else wrong — The breaker first, GE's way: off and back on. One half of a two-pole 240 V breaker can trip and leave the motor running on 120 V. If it trips again, or the terminal block reads 120 V on one leg to neutral but not 208–240 V across the two, that is an electrician, not a part. 5
- DIY part Electric, drum turns, stone cold, breaker fine — The thermostat-and-fuse cluster on the heater pan first (WE04X26139; fuse near 0.00 Ω, sensor thermostat about 9,000 Ω), then the purple wire, then the element WE11X21156 at about 43 Ω on iFixit's GE figure. Both our GE files list the element. 5
- DIY part Heats, then stops heating partway; or heats on some cycles only — The inlet or blower thermostat tripping (WE04X25201, WE04X26216), or the cluster's sensor thermostat reading wrong. Clean the vent as well, because an overheating dryer is usually a choked dryer. 14
- DIY first, then a technician Gas, igniter never glows — The igniter (80–400 Ω on iFixit's generic figure) once the fuse chain tests good. No sourced GE igniter number, so buy by your model's diagram. 7
- DIY first, then a technician Gas, igniter glows but no flame, or flame dies — Valve coils (500–1,500 Ω) or the flame sensor, on iFixit's glow rules. The coils are a DIY swap; if the valve body is suspect, or you smell gas, close the supply and call a technician. 7
By what the display shows
- No code; drum turns
- GE's FAQ hub has no dryer error-code page, and neither GTD42 file in our corpus carries a heat code. A blown fuse or a dead element gives no code. Unplug and go to the cluster. 1
- Cycle light on, fluff or cool-down selected
- Not a fault. GE: set a dry cycle, not fluff or cool down. 1
- Runs, no heat, and the dryer is new or just moved
- GE: a dedicated 208/240 V outlet (120 V for a gas dryer), the right amperage, the cord connections at the back, and on a gas model the gas line turned on. An electric dryer on 120 V tumbles and does not heat. 2
05 / The routine
Diagnose in this order
Free checks, then the safety chain with a multimeter, then the heater, then stop. Unplug before opening any panel; on a gas dryer close the gas valve too. Reconnecting a bypassed thermal fuse is how dryers catch fire, so never run one without it.
- Minute 0 Settings and the breaker. A dry cycle, not fluff or cool-down; Eco Dry off. Breaker off and on, GE's own instruction; on an electric GE a half-tripped two-pole breaker runs the drum and not the heater.
- Minute 5 Airflow, GE's way. Lint filter out, inspected for clogs and rinsed under warm water if dryer-sheet residue makes it hold water (iFixit's first step). Front of the dryer clear. Behind it: metal duct only, no plastic, a 4-inch wall cap, nothing crushed. Vacuum the duct.
- Minute 20 Unplug. Meter on the terminal block (electric). About 120 V from each hot to neutral and 208–240 V across the two, per iFixit's GE guide. 120 V on one side is the supply, not the dryer. Look at the cord connections while you are there; GE lists a burnt or loose one as a cause.
- Hour 1 The thermostat-and-fuse cluster. Rear panel off. On the heater pan: the fuse's large terminal near 0.00 Ω, the sensor thermostat about 9,000 Ω, the inlet and blower thermostats by continuity at room temperature. Replace what reads open and clean the vent, because a fuse that blew once will blow again into a blocked duct.
- Hour 2 The heater itself. Electric: the purple wire at the lower right of the heater pan for charring, then the element at about 43 Ω across (about 21 Ω per half) on iFixit's GE figure, no continuity to the pan; the assembly WE11X21156 swaps as one part. Gas: watch the igniter through the burner slot; no glow is the igniter (80–400 Ω), glow without flame is the coils (500–1,500 Ω) or the flame sensor.
- Stop Timer, board, or a gas valve body. If 240 V reaches the terminal block and everything downstream tests good, the timer contacts (rotate the knob to a heat setting and check continuity, per iFixit) and then the board are the last suspects and a technician's call; so is any gas valve work beyond the coils.
06 / What to expect
What it costs: fix or replace
The repair steps against the two numbers that decide it: what the dryer you have costs to run (our catalogue's median GE is $114.49 a year) and what a replacement costs to buy and run (the cheapest-to-run published GE, the GFD14ES*N, is $46.32 a year).
- $0 Cycle set, breaker reset, vent cleared, cord checked. GE's own page starts and ends here. If the breaker reset and the dryer heats, it was never broken. 1
- Low cost The cluster: high-limit, inlet thermostat. WE04X26139, WE04X25194, WE04X25201. Against any replacement dryer none of these is a decision; no ranking guide prices the job, so the only labor figure we can give is the generic dryer one below. 16
- Higher cost Blower thermostat. WE04X26216, the one part of the cluster that costs well above the rest on the GTD42 platform. 16
- Highest cost Heating element assembly (electric). WE11X21156: GE sells the heater as a complete assembly for this platform, and there is no cheap coil. This is the one GE-specific cost on the page, and the reason the cluster and the purple wire get tested first. 16
- $114/yr What the dryer you have costs to run. The median GE dryer in our catalogue costs $114.49 a year at the national rate. A cheap thermostat buys another year of that at little cost; a timer, a board or a motor on a fifteen-year-old vented dryer is where the next row starts to matter. 15
- Replace Replace and keep the running-cost difference. The GFT14ES*M runs $59.69 a year, $55 less than the median GE: a very long payback on electricity alone, so a reason to choose the efficient model when the dryer is dead, not a reason to kill it. The cheapest-to-run published GE is the GFD14ES*N at $46.32 a year. 15
07 / The parts
5 parts, one per fault
We did not fit these parts; see the method note.
Each part is the one the corpus files, the guides and the community name for that fault, matched to Amazon listings by part number. The pick is the lowest-priced listing that names the part number.
-
Runs, no heat at all
High-limit thermostat WE04X26139
WE04X26139 · rear panel · continuity
The first part in the cluster on the heater pan and the first the guides test; a good one reads near 0 Ω at room temperature, an open one reads OL. On our GTD42EASJ2WW file.
A thermostat that opened is a symptom of a blocked vent; clean the duct before you fit it or it trips again. Never bridge any part of the cluster.
-
Cluster tests good, still cold (electric)
Heating element assembly WE11X21156
WE11X21156 · rear panel · tech sheet
The complete heater for the GTD42 platform, on both our GE files (GTD42EASJ1WW, GTD42EASJ2WW). About 43 Ω across and about 21 Ω per half on iFixit's GE figure, no continuity to the pan; OL is dead. Check the purple wire at the pan for charring first.
There is no separate coil for this platform, so test everything upstream before ordering.
-
Same fault, the other high-limit number
High-limit thermostat WE04X25194
WE04X25194 · continuity
The second high-limit number on our GTD42EASJ2WW file; the J2 file carries two, so the parts diagram for your model tag decides which. Same test, same job.
Genuine listing: none found under the rule in the decode note. Match the number to your model's parts diagram.
-
Heats, then stops mid-cycle
Inlet thermostat WE04X25201
WE04X25201 · continuity
At the heater inlet; it cuts the heater when the box overheats and resets when it cools. A dryer that heats and then stops is usually this, the blower thermostat, or the vent. On our GTD42EASJ2WW file.
Genuine listing: none found under the rule in the decode note. If it trips repeatedly, the cause is airflow, not the thermostat.
-
Heats, then stops; blower side
Blower thermostat WE04X26216
WE04X26216 · continuity
On the blower housing, the last thermostat in the chain and the only one on this platform that costs much more than the rest. Same continuity test. On our GTD42EASJ2WW file.
Test the cheaper thermostats first; this one is rarely the only fault.
Prices change, so check the live price on Amazon. Part numbers are from our GE dryer repair files (GTD42EASJ1WW, GTD42EASJ2WW) and from the guides we read; confirm against your model's parts diagram. Affiliate links; we earn a commission at no cost to you.

Where they agree
- Power and airflow before parts. GE and both iFixit guides put the breaker, the 240 V supply and the vent ahead of any component; Fred's puts the fuse first and power second, ApplianceJournal the fuse and then the element; GE's own no-heat pages never go further than the supply.
- The fuse before the heater. Every guide that reaches the parts stage tests the thermal fuse by continuity before it touches the element; only iFixit's generic guide also puts the high-limit and cycling thermostats ahead of it, the other three read the element first. On the GTD42 platform every part of the cluster is cheap except the blower thermostat, which is the page's reason to test the whole cluster in the same pass.
- OL is the failure. The three sources that put a number on the element disagree on the number (43, 10, 19.2 Ω) and agree that an open reading, or continuity to the pan, condemns it.
- No source gives a GE-specific failure rate for this fault. Yale's 5.2% is a first-year service rate across all faults; Consumer Reports' 4% is heating-element trouble across all electric dryers; our corpus counts repair-video attention. The page uses each for what it is.
Where they split
- What should the element read? — iFixit's GE guide: about 43 Ω across, about 21 Ω per half. iFixit's generic electric guide: about 10 Ω. ApplianceJournal: 19.2 Ω ± 1. GE elements on this platform are two coils in series, so the pair you measure changes the number, and the three guides are likely describing different elements. A reading of OL on the whole element, or continuity to the pan, is the failure on all three; the tech sheet inside your dryer has the figure for yours.
- Fuse first, or element first? — Fred's Appliance and ApplianceJournal: the fuse. iFixit's GE guide: the lint filter, then power, then the fuse. GE: the outlet, and nothing after it. The community: the vent. On a GE the order is decided by cost: every part of the cluster is cheap except the blower thermostat, and the element is a costly assembly, so test everything upstream, including the purple wire, before ordering the element.
- How reliable is a GE dryer? — Yale's 2022 dryer report: 5.2%, third of four. Prudent Reviews' professionals: two of sixteen recommend GE; one Grand Rapids company names it among the two brands with the fewest service issues. Consumer Reports: owner satisfaction improved for GE Profile electric dryers and for GE and GE Profile gas dryers in 2026, no number given. Middle of the pack on the one hard series, and the series is four years old. Nothing in it says a GE is more likely to stop heating than another dryer; it says the cheap parts are the same and GE's own troubleshooting stops short of them.

Make sure you have the right cycle selection, fabric setting and temperature selection. The cycle should be set to a dry cycle and not fluff or cool down.

12 / Questions
Frequently asked
- Why does my GE dryer run but not heat?
- Because the motor and the heater are on different circuits. GE's own page: the dryer needs a dedicated 208/240 V outlet, and on 120 V, or with one half of the two-pole breaker tripped, it runs and does not heat. After that it is the thermostat-and-fuse cluster on the heater pan (WE04X26139) and then the element (WE11X21156). On a gas GE it is the igniter or the valve coils. Check the cycle first: fluff and cool-down do not heat. 15
- How do I test the thermal fuse on a GE dryer?
- Unplug it. iFixit's GE guide: the fuse is in the thermostat cluster on the heater pan; its large terminal should read near 0.00 Ω, and the small terminals on the sensor-style thermostat about 9,000 Ω. OL on the fuse is blown. Replace what reads open and clean the vent, or the new one blows the same way. Never bridge a fuse to test the heater. 5
- What should a GE dryer heating element read on a multimeter?
- iFixit's GE guide: about 43 Ω across the whole element and about 21 Ω across each half, with no continuity to the pan. iFixit's generic guide says about 10 Ω and ApplianceJournal 19.2 Ω ± 1; they are probably describing different elements. OL, a visibly broken coil, or continuity to the metal is the failure on all three. Check the purple wire at the lower right of the heater pan for charring before you condemn the element. 59
- My GE gas dryer's igniter glows but there is no flame. Which part?
- The gas valve coils or the flame sensor. iFixit's gas guide: glowing for five minutes with no flame is the flame sensor; glowing for up to two minutes and quitting is the coils (500–1,500 Ω). If the igniter never glows it is the igniter (80–400 Ω) once the fuse chain tests good. No source we read names a GE igniter or coil part number; buy by your model's diagram, close the gas valve first, and call a technician for the valve body. 78
- How much does it cost to fix a GE dryer that is not heating?
- The parts run from a cheap high-limit thermostat to a costly heating element assembly, matched on Amazon by part number; the inlet thermostat is also low-cost, and the blower thermostat costs more. None of the pages that rank for the query prices the job, and GE's own page names no part, so there is no professional figure we can quote for a GE specifically. 16
- Is it worth repairing a GE dryer?
- For the cluster, yes at any age: every thermostat is cheap except the blower thermostat. The element is the GE-specific question: as an assembly it is still a fraction of a new dryer, but on a fifteen-year-old vented model it is the point to look at the running cost (the median GE costs $114.49 a year; the cheapest-to-run published GE, the GFD14ES*N, $46.32). 1516
- Are GE dryers reliable?
- Yale Appliance's 2022 report put GE at a 5.2% first-year service rate, third of the four full-size brands it carried (Whirlpool 0.4%, LG 2.0%, Maytag 6.0%) and above the 3.5% dryer average; no newer Yale dryer report was found. Two of the sixteen repair professionals Prudent Reviews consulted in 2026 recommend GE, and one names LG and GE as the brands with the fewest service issues. Consumer Reports' 2026 survey says owner satisfaction improved for GE Profile electric dryers and for GE and GE Profile gas dryers, without publishing a number outside its paywall. 101112
- Was there a recall on GE dryers?
- One, in 2008: GE recalled DWXR463GGWW gas dryers (serial numbers starting AM, TL, SL, VL and ZL) because a wiring short posed a shock hazard on ungrounded dryers. It has nothing to do with heating, and a CPSC search on "ge dryer" returns nothing. GE's warranty terms could not be reached from its site in this pass, so none is stated here. 13
- Which GE part numbers fit my dryer?
- From our two model files (GTD42EASJ1WW, GTD42EASJ2WW), both electric: heating element assembly WE11X21156 (both files), high-limit thermostats WE04X25194 and WE04X26139, inlet thermostat WE04X25201, blower thermostat WE04X26216 (all four on the J2 file). No source we read names a GE thermal fuse, igniter or coil number for these models; check the parts diagram for your model tag before ordering. 14
- Why does my GE dryer take three times as long?
- GE's own answer: an electric dryer on a 120 V circuit instead of 240 V takes up to three times longer, and so does one with a plastic or crushed vent, a full lint filter, a mixed load, or Eco Dry selected. Fix the supply and the vent before the heater. 3

What 113 GE dryer comments say
113 comments about a GE dryer · from 427 threads · r/appliancerepair, r/Appliances, r/HomeImprovement · Feb 2018 – Sep 2026
We harvested the top-voted threads for nine dryer-no-heat queries on r/appliancerepair, r/Appliances and r/HomeImprovement and kept every comment or post about a GE dryer (threads about other appliances, washer-dryer combos and heat-pump units excluded): 113 in all from 427 threads. The shares are the proportion of those comments that raise each theme; a comment can raise more than one. Each quote is a first-person comment from the GE set, chosen for fit within its theme; its score at harvest is shown, and the ranked candidates for every theme are in the download.

The replace question as a GE owner asked it: intermittent heat, an E11 code, and something inside the cabinet that made them ask about fire.
A commenter's test: run it with the door switch held; heat without drying is the vent.
A gas GE with a good igniter and no heat: the blower thermostat ruled out, the igniter's supply next.
The GE-specific fault in the trade's own words: the updated kit replaces the element and the purple wire together.
The first question GE owners ask: which fuse, and what is its number.
The symptom as owners phrase it, with the model tag.
The supply check as a commenter gives it: 240 V at the plug, or it runs on 110 with no heat.
The cluster tested by an owner: continuity on the top two thermostats, and, as far as the owner can find, no fuse on this model.

Method. 427 threads gathered 2026-09-13 from r/appliancerepair (239), r/Appliances (159), r/HomeImprovement (29), through Reddit's public search, sorted by top and by relevance for nine dryer-no-heat queries (four of them brand-specific); Reddit blocked a share of thread fetches, so this is a sample of top-voted discussion and not a complete count. The unit of analysis is a comment or post in a thread whose title names a GE dryer, or that itself names GE and a dryer term (113 of 4,702 posts and comments harvested); AutoModerator and bot comments are excluded. Themes are keyword matches on the comment's text; a comment can match several. Quotes are trimmed for length and profanity; where a post rather than a comment is quoted, its title is shown before its body; nothing is reworded. Scores are Reddit upvotes at harvest time.
